Used to get the usual horn beeping when parked up thru the day, especially around thurrock. But that might be just cos we were in “their” layby.
A lot of not being flashed in, but the same wagon will flash the next non stobbies one in, but that doesnt bother me.
Worst comment i heard was after a fatal accident up north “ah well, hes only a stobart driver”. Which is pretty ■■■■ imo.
I work for em, not a “company man” but like to do my job right. And, yes, there are some ■■■■■■■ idiots working for stobarts, but i’m pretty sure there are ■■■■■■■■■ working for a lot of other firms in the country. But always thought as has been said before, we are all drivers, trying to earn a living.
the only reason i wouldent work with them is the hourly rate other than that whats not to like decent trucks well maintained as for the work well works work surley

As far as i have seen the hourly rate certainly isnt the best, but i think its still no where near the worst.
There are a lot of hours, but i have never had such an easy job.
As long as you can ignore the Stobart ■■■■■■■■ and learn to not let the crap the planners spout get to you, its quite a cushy job.
Yes, green shirt and all that, but saves wearing my own gear.
I’d much rather work for a smaller family type firm, but sadly, around this area, they are few and far between.
discoman:
disgusting, how some drivers treat others just because of there colour of the truck …
Yes I drive a plain white one, no name, I’m often ignored
and after meeting you, there’s no wonder
thankfully, i do not have to meet the fat greasy old drivers in UK no more, but on serious note not acceptable to abuse or do nasty things to drivers just because they work for stobart, i bet half who slag them off would drive for them if they needed the money, none of this wouldnt drive for them if they were the last truck company going bull
one had some fat scruffy ■■■■ mumble something under his breath whilst i was at the counter at nisa scunthorpe.he had got a couple of ■■■■ ant hangers on with him,who were sniggering at what ever he said…i just turned to face them and gave an exagerated smile.
fat lad went quiet, and the ■■■■ ants stared at the floor
Although I dislike the company and the way they treat their most vital employees, I don’t treat a Stobart driver any different to any other. I wouldn’t work for Stobart’s but if they’re happy with their lot, OK with me. A bit of courtesy goes a long way.
However, a Stobbie man that thinks he’s better than me 'cos he’s dressed like an extra from a panto is a different matter… Otherwise, I will have a natter with anyone!!
Generally speaking you find that most drivers are OK, whoever they work for, with the odd exception. You can laugh at the Jackanory types and keep your head down and crack on and then life’s not three bad…
Got nothing against any driver no matter who they work for, we’re all doing the same thing, trying to earn a living driving trucks.
Mind you I just started a new job and have been delivering to RDC’s for the first time, how would you know if you were being ignored ? I’ve seen more life at a funeral parlour than in the driver waiting area’s. A couple of Spanish drivers walked into the one at Didcot yesterday laughing and joking and you could see the disproving looks from all the other drivers, some even stopped looking at their mobile phones for 2 seconds to give them a dirty look before grumbling to themselves and returning to their facebook/twitter/■■■■ viewing.
Most of the drivers in there make security guards seem laugh a minute, and anyone who knows the miserable, short, fat security guard at Fresh Direct in Bicester knows that is saying something
I drive for Stobarts and I like my job , and couldn’t give two hoots if someone didn’t like me because I wear a green uniform .
Only the other day I was delivering to Sainsburys in Hams Hall , as most will know you can use all three lanes on the way in , we’ll I went to lane one while another lorry was already in lane three , I got through first and went and parked up and waited for the other lorry to park up before I handed in my paperwork because he was there first , you know I didn’t even get a thx , do I care , Do I …

Lorry drivers…You do not have a lot going for you, you would have thought, that if nothing else, you would stick together and relish the camaraderie that is to be found on the road.
I’m afraid that cameraderie is becoming a thing of the past, I’m old enough to remember when lorry drivers looked out for and helped each other, but you don’t need to look any further than to read some of the posts on this site to see how much that’s changed. In fact life in general in this country has changed a lot in my lifetime, and not for the better.

well said bernard, seems people come on here just to argue these days…
In my eyes as a driver with only 2 and half months behind me i see all truck drivers as drivers who are out to earn a living to provide food for there families. No one should get treated like ■■■■ because they work for a “certain” company, sorry but that’s wrong.
I worked for them in the mid 90s on the knauf contract in Ridham. I once pulled into alconbury and was approached by a vest wearing moron who came straight up to me shouting “where’s your ■■■■■■■ tie, I’m gonna report you and get my cash and you’ll get the sack” I merely pointed out that I was off duty and didn’t have to wear it but pointed out he needed a new shirt as he looked like a vagrant. He got the arse and raised his fist but the staff intervened and threw him off the site and reported him to his boss!
Really don’t get the hatred as a driver is a driver but this was the exception as most other drivers were ok.

Really unfortunate. It’s not great to hear stories like this and it really makes you aware of the flagrant discrimination that exists - and that’s what it is isn’t it? Let’s not sugar coat it or find that too silly. If your attitude toward another human being is dictated by prejudice, hearsay and stereotype, that’s discrimination.
Life is hard enough at the moment - both in the industry and in general - without adding to the misery!

You are so right…I am only 47 years of age…Yet I have seen the erosion of so many qualities that are vital to a fair and just society!
We have been hounded down to the lowest common denominator and that has enabled greed, selfishness etc. to flourish…It really is a sad and sorry state of affairs.
We have lost our way big time…And I doubt we will ever get it back in our lifetime!
You’ve got it dead right Albion 1938,I can’t belive what an awful nasty vindictive lot we have become of late now people don’t care who they tread on as they try and climb the greasy pole
Yep its fair to say the TV series got us few friends amongst other drivers but that was to be expected,it didn"t matter who they made the series of…DHL,Wincantons,Norbetts the garbage spouted by some of you would have been the same,it just added extra spice being about us Stobarts…most drivers except it as a light hearted look at what we do,to the public is brilliant, but to some of you…you"d think it was life threatning…yep in the early years of working fot Stobarts you got used to be being put on the hard shoulder by other drivers on a regular basis…even caught one up in a motorway hjam after he did it to me one day…down went my window to speak to him…what a scruff he was, next time you do that mate i said…lets just pray your wife and kids are broke down on the hard shoulder so i plough over the top of them…or some other innocent motorist…full marks for him for saying sorry and he went on his way thinking of what he"d done…make me laugh all this so called crap wages we spose to be getting…i work as many hours as i want and get paid for them…£22 a n/o and £13 a day meal allowance plus £5 a day fuel bonus all tax free, thats £200 a week tax free then theres my hourly rate and sat rate, yep im pleased with it,take home pay for me is just over £600 a week…im happy with that and as some other Stobart men on here have said, the job is a doddle…no hard work involved and all good well looked after tackle…yep i agree theres better jobs out there, but theres not many thats better for what we do…i can put up with the crap thats aimed at us…in one ear and out the other…each and every driver to there own…as long as your all safe out there im happy…
