I’ve just ordered a Snooper Truckmate S8000 as I’m sick of driving round London on multi-drops with a 15 ft 8 in trailer and working out routes with a tom-tom and a low bridge map
I’m thinking that there are no speed cameras/warnings at all unless you pay for this Aura database - is that correct?
Thanks.
Thanks Radar19 I think the tom-tom has them but the way the write-ups for the Snooper read I’m thinking that if you don’t buy the Aura download then you get nothing at all.
The tom-tom truck is a nice unit but having seen the two side by side I’d say the Snooper is definitely quicker at doing things and the larger screen and the TV are a bonus in my eyes.

Ah. I’m only on day work so the TV is moot and I know the software that Tom Tom uses
Recently bought the DB8500 pro sound and got the AURA package as well. Certainly cant grumble, but theres no such thing as a faultless nav, so i never leave home without my Philips navigator atlas and reading glasses!

On the first point I can see that.
On the second that’s the reason I’m trying the Snooper
My 730 keeps freezing and needs re-setting if I use Bluetooth with my iPhone. It’s always done that and it’s quite annoying.

I still carry a Curver box full of Phillips books and A to Z’s
It’s nice to actually look at a street map and get your bearings (if you’re “old school” like me )

If you go into route description there is a map of anywhere in the country and you,re able to zoom in or out to see as much as you want to see, paper maps are finished!!

Never! Heresy!
(Especially if you don’t have your reading glasses with you)
I have the S8000 with tv, and the only issue i have had with it is the GPS locked up for about an hour one day. put it in the draw in the cab while on my drop and then took it out before i left and it was working again.
other than that, not one wrong turn, no low bridges and is fully configurable for route, quickest, shortest, tolls etc…
now to a point where i cant cope without it. hope it never breaks!
Thanks Djelmo, pulling high trailers about on a regular basis and often in Central London I think a truck-dedicated satnav has become a must. The TV is a bit of a bonus too.
Just sent my Truckmate Pro S8000 back for a refund as it kept losing the satellite signal for up to 20 mins at a time - the reason apparently is the heat reflective windscreen on ‘certain vehicles’ (i was in a DAF at the time)…(aside from that the TV was brilliant!)
I’ll continue to use my TomTom Rider V2 (the motorbike version) with the Truck system loaded on it…not the quickest to react due to lack of internal memory but it does the job! - and saved me spending an unnecessary £340…
New word m8 ,i had to google it ,i bet your one of them blokes who comes to work like bear grilles with anough stuff to take you round the world, and leave the round stickers marks on the window where your satnava been, sad
seth 70:
beam me up scotty, whats up with a map or satnav an common sense
I would think you,re probably classed as old school and probably find it hard to get you,re head around so called technology, don,t be scared to ask someone how these things work,no one will mind

If you’ve got a Go 730, you can ‘convert’ that into a truck nav
BUT, my experience of truck navs in London (not been in for a few years / updates mind) is they don’t understand the ‘timed’ weight limits, and try to avoid them, this can make navigating London hard work, sometimes a map really is best.
