Thanks Radar19 I think the tom-tom has them but the way the write-ups for the Snooper read I’m thinking that if you don’t buy the Aura download then you get nothing at all.

The tom-tom truck is a nice unit but having seen the two side by side I’d say the Snooper is definitely quicker at doing things and the larger screen and the TV are a bonus in my eyes.

Ah. I’m only on day work so the TV is moot and I know the software that Tom Tom uses :sunglasses:

On the first point I can see that.
On the second that’s the reason I’m trying the Snooper
My 730 keeps freezing and needs re-setting if I use Bluetooth with my iPhone. It’s always done that and it’s quite annoying.

If you’ve got a Go 730, you can ‘convert’ that into a truck nav

BUT, my experience of truck navs in London (not been in for a few years / updates mind) is they don’t understand the ‘timed’ weight limits, and try to avoid them, this can make navigating London hard work, sometimes a map really is best.

Snooper now recognises the London lorry ban mine asks me if I will accept the route if it,s in the ban zone and won,t let me plan a route before 7am,so what I do is plan a route just short of the ban then at 7am type in my original route, works a treat, and I do a lot of London ,most days ,and all areas of London, use a bit of common sense with it can,t go wrong, touch wood!!

Like I said, it’s been a few years since I’ve had to go into 1 of the ‘timed weight limits’, most of my jobs are in normal places lol.

I’ve done quite a few updates on my ‘tomtom truck’ (540 with truck maps and navcore) so I’ve no idea if this has changed it or not, but I’d want others to be aware of it.

It’s a bit crap that it won’t plan a 4hr route that’ll take you into the ‘lorry ban’ before 7am, if I’m leaving Manchester at 4am and want to deliver there around 9-30 am, it should plan the bloody route knowing it’s a good 4hrs (plus traffic and a break, since nobody enters London with only 30 mins drive time lol) so will be after 7am when I get there.

Thanks everyone for the info.
Is there a setting on the Snooper so that you can “turn off” the London lorry ban and accept that you’re going to have to remember it yourself? That would get around the route planning problem perhaps.

If select the car option on the Snooper to enter the London locations. Then after
7am when the ban ends, switch to the truck mode.

Ok thanks. That would do it

It also directs you a truck freindly route in car mode. Have a DB8500 and its the same route for our trucks or the car, just the times that change

I had to bin my Snooper S7000 as the screen went too dark to see it.
I left it in the windscreen on a hot weekend.
I now have the S8000.
Not sure why a trucker would use a car sat nav in a lorry?

i have a 6400 and if i try routing into the lorry ban it tells me giving me an option to accept or re route there’s also new soft wear available to download i had a s200 but the new ones are much better

Again thanks for all the info / suggestions.
It should arrive some time next week and I can then set it up and get the speed cameras downloaded.
I’ve got 4 DCPC’s this week to finish off that nonsense. I’ll need more stimulants for those than for 10 hour drives! Yawn. :open_mouth:

Are these snooper navs any good in London central !!! I have Garmin nuvi car Sat nav it’s a good quality one but in London it starts going mental and wants to take you through people’s back gardens ffs lol so I have to turn it off and use the London map book it’s ok but must be nice to have a Sat nav that’s reliable in central London especially as we carry crane parts to all those nightmare building sites in the central .
Was looking into getting a snooper but if there no good in central London I will carry on balancing my map on the steering wheel lol

I use an S8000, mainly around London. Most of the time it’s fine but there are a few niggles:

She’s not really loud enough
The pre-7am thing is a pain in the arse
Quite often thinks I’m about 30ft to the left of where I am
There’s at least 1 road in London (can’t think of name at the mo) that it doesn’t recognise even on latest map update.
My truck cab height indicator says 3.99m, so put this into S8000 and it keeps trying to take me through a tunnel with a 4m height restriction (a tad too tight for comfort imo).

Few features I haven’t tried yet are the blue-tooth phone link - though if at same volume as announcements will barely be useable and the digital radio stations but the TV is pretty good.

Andy your speakers sound faulty. If I turn the volume up on mine, she blasts me out of the window!

Dont know about the other snooper models, but my DB8500 has the facility to bluetooth everything through the cab stereo, so volume levels are never an issue. Maybe its just the pro sound that can do this. If this is the case, then it`s defo worth the extra dollars, as the inbuilt speaker is woefully inadequate.

That’s a good point. You’ve now got me thinking about changing my order to the DB8500
And I’d get radio 2 on DAB too

Can’t blame the sat nav for that, 4m is more than 3.99m. Also, the 4m is the safe passable height for the vehicle, so a 4m vehicle can go through that tunnel, you should have plenty of room assuming your truck was measured correctly
