After some advice.
I am curious if there’s any actually h&s law.on pump trucks.
As am.basiaclly getting fed up.now of having to taillift off pallets weighing 700 kgs.plus.
Then having to.pull them.100.of yards because can’t park close to.some premises
I do ask for a push from delivery point. And.a few will help but vast majority wont
Is there any law regards how much weight you can. Carry.
Also does a pump truck have a weight limit?
Try telling our place it’s hard work and there taking the.pee .but they don’t seem.to care.
I don’t believe there is a maximum, but some companies will set one voluntarily. Up to about a tonne can be manageable if it is smooth ground with no gradient and preferably coming off the back rather than the side. More often than not the delivery point of course won’t have been checked out properly beforehand. The joys of being a delivery driver!
Heavy cages over stones can be a nightmare too. I have probably done some deliveries I should have refused to do!
HSE booklet

I would guess it’s also in digital form somewhere?
.
EDIT
Put
HSE UK indg 478
Into your search engine and it’s there in PDF.
Where I work at the moment, the rigids have pallet trucks but they are battery operated and a lot, lot easier to work with.
Simple answer to that is, 100 yards is unreasonable tell whoever your delivering to or your Boss they will get their delivery when you can get within a reasonable distance of your door. or you take it back until such time you can.
15 -20 ft is reasonable anymore than that for me it would be up to the delivery staff from there.
Basically we’ve been sub contracted to xpo.
And everyother drop is to a car parts shop or garage with plts of batteries and oil drums.
Can’t get anywarr near the door in some garage showrooms have pump them.around the building
.
Fair play to them who do it day In day out.
But yeah there has to be some law that says over certain weight have be a motorised truck. As not doing my back much good

Yep, kerbside only
Where I work the manual trucks have a weight limit of 1500kg. We do a Safe Working Practice scheme, if the pallet is too heavy we have to decant it. Takes the proverbial I’ll tell you

Being chased down the trailer and dock leveller by a full pallet of pop is fun (not), likewise trying not to let said pallet fly off the end of the truck while trying to get it on the tailift is challenging
This recent fatal involving an over-weight pump truck may give pause for thought to the bosses who think that if it can fit on a pallet. then it can be delivered and those drivers who, for whatever reason are prepared or required to battle with such problems on a daily basis.
The fine may seem light but I’m fairly sure this happened before the fines were linked to the company balance sheets.

You’d thought the invest in eletric ones…when.consider how many loads are damaged/dropped off time workers have off due to bad backs .plus time and.motion studies you could get pallets off quicker do more.
An electric truck would soon pay for its self
My advice to the OP would be to say to the boss “Look, I’m getting too old to do this now so you’ll either have to get me a powered pallet truck or I’m afraid I’ll just have to look for a different job with less manual handling”.
What is the law on electric pump trucks? In our place you can’t use them if you didn’t do training, passed test, then you have to renew it every 3 years, basically the same as you do for forklift trucks.
But I had agency jobs, where they didn’t ask you anything, just use it, don’t know if it’s legal or not.

How much does one of these electric pallet trucks weigh? Can you move it unladen if the battery fails?

In the words of a song, “let it go” Sod trying to stop a tonne of anything,

Yeah it’s usually written somewhere on the truck. Most I use are rated at 2 000kg or 2500kg max load Good luck getting me to move a 2 ■■■■■■■ tonne pallet with a manual pump truck, though
Realistically you shouldn’t be dragging it over tarmac or any uneven surface for long distances because it will f up the wheels.
Regarding law/hs etc. my training consisted of signing a 2 sheet ‘‘training document’’ covering of the basics without any actual training. Then again we only use pump trucks inside the trucks/trailers so no biggie.

There are some around now designed for deliveries. Not like the big uns designed to work all day in a warehouse.

“Oh you won’t sign unless I lug it 100yrds up your gravel driveway! Jog on… back on the truck it goes. Bye bye.”
Oh suddenly you’ll sign and move your own ■■■■… customers are ball ache

Went to.lidl wednesbury about year ago
Booked at office was asked beem.here before no
Used eletric truck before no
Was handed an a 4 sheet with instructions does n donts
Sign.here that was it.
Did use after about 6 plts I got the hang of it.
Manual pallet trucks with a brake also exist and make it a bit easier to ease a pallet on the tail-lift without feeling as if it is going to roll away.
