On another thread, the issue of pulling fuses etc came up. What is your opinion on beating the limiter?. My own is I know how to do it, but feel there is a very big difference between doing more than 40 & pulling the plug.
I do not & will not drive a vehicle where the limiter has been disabled, unless I need to do so for the limiter to be reconected/repaired.
Pointless. You’ll only end up charging up to the next lorry thats doing 56. Only of any use in the middle of the night when there’s no traffic.
Dont forget the that if you get caught in a vehicle with the fuse pulled then you are in it big time.
The police / ministry will do you left right and centre for driving a vehicle with defective speed limiter and if you know about it and had not reported it then they will jump on you double.
The company will also be prosecuted even if they did not know.
I agree that any vehicle I am told to drive which has had the fuse pulled or a defective speed limiter then I would refuse and report it not only to the company but to the Agency I work for.
I am not happy about having to stick to 56 - but if we have to we have to.
Anyone small operator who has pulled fuses must be getting his costings for jobs wrong if he has to run bent.
Sorry me getting on my high horse.
I have no interest or desire to ‘beat the limiter.’ I don’t even run at the limiter anyway, few km’s below it, so beating it would be pointless. My vehicle is also on a full R & M contract with Volvo and they could tell if I had been doing it and that wouldn’t go down very well when it came to warranty claims etc., reckon it would end up costing me money.
The only fuses I want pulled are,
-
the fuse to the klingon like cloaking device, the one that renders trucks invisible to car drivers and the like.
-
the fuse to the numpty attration device, the one that attracts numpties like flies round [zb], just when you are trying to turn round or some such manouvre, the numpties arrive like flies to screw up your life.
As for pulling the speed limiter fuse, WHY?, if you go over 56mph, you get done, whats the freaking point? I want as quiet a life as possible, I want the feds and VI/VOSA to leave me alone, I haven’t done anything wrong, don’t pick on me please.
In about 8 years of professional driving, I’ve been pulled about 4 times, I want to keep it that way.
If you had to put stars in, you must have known I’d take it out…L.
It was I who mentioned pulling the fuse I believe. I myself never actually did it but had work mates who did. I valued my licence too much.
Been there done that…never!!! never!!! again lol…
i think we have all at some time have either tipped of the card pulled the fuse or done something we know we should nt have. Thats what this haulage game is all about its a learning curve all the time. and if you get to “i’ve learnt everything” stage. well theres no hope for you lol.
we are all human.prone to mistakes no one is perfect. i personally like the limiters. but i miss the days of 100k’s i feel more relaxed driving just under the limiter. then youve got a little bit when you need it to overtake lol even if it still takes 3 miles to do
re pulling fuses is pointless now because the average truck carries more computer power now than the first manned space mission and as soon as its plugged in at the dealers it will grass you up, it was only ever any good on the old motors which didnt monitor that sort of thing, if you pulled the limiter fuse on a 3 series scania it knocked out the ABS ecu and bust, it but they got sneaky by putting the limiter on the indicator fuse to try to stop it, by the way if you really want to do it, [ZB]
Edited-TruckNetUK cannot and will not condone ANY illegal activities or the methods used. Coffeeholic
I just felt the point needed to be made that we as drivers, mostly, do not agree with beating the limiter.
Yes I know many of us can & some, at some point in the past have, but despite the fact many HGV’s do not keep to the 40mph limit we do not as a whole admire, support or respect those who charge around at 60mph+.
Why does any idiot wish to break the law
which in turn invalidates the vehicles
insurance, and is classed as a criminal
offence which if involving a accident
may / will put you the driver liable for
all costs and also a holiday in one of
the prisons of the UK;
the days are long gone,
if you did why would you
if you get paid by the hour your doing your boss a favour no over time paid
if your salaried why would you what to work more hours
not worth the hassel it well just give you more stress don’t we have enough on are mines keeping are jobs at this trying time
