if you get paid by the hour your doing your boss a favour no over time paid
if your salaried why would you what to work more hours
not worth the hassel it well just give you more stress don’t we have enough on are mines keeping are jobs at this trying time
del
If you are paid by the hour, You could work longer hours as it knocks off the tacho.
If you are salaried you could get there quicker and do less hours.
And it is safer without a limiter as you are in better control of the vehicle and more alert. and it is safer to sleep when YOU want and not when the EU rule makers tell you to.
Saves a lot of time pulling the fuse out, guess i can safely say this since well over the amount of time to get charged with it. Used to work for a company on a salary, don’t think the fuse was ever in most of the time.
It did make a huge difference doing night trunks, used to sit at 60-62mph on busy stretchs of the motorway, police didnt even seem to notice god knows how many times they cruised by me.
Used to really open it up getting further up the M6 where it was a lot quieter.
Biggest problem with running bent is its addictive going south had to be there for a certain time, being early no use really so never being a big hurry, coming back up the road, drop off the truck go home.
Went from being doing it occasionally when running late, to screw it could be home a lot earlier and doing it all the time, get used to getting home early and feels so slow going legal speed.
I agree with Limeyphil its prob safer within reason no taking ages to overtake someone, feel much more alert and awake. Ive never agreed with the 56mph limiter and thought they should have been set to about 65mph.
But i was pretty stupid and niave when i was doing it, if i had been caught would have been screwed big time and certainly when i think back not worth the risk. If i had a serious accident which wasnt even my fault the fact i was running bent would have meant i would be in serious trouble.
majority of companies paying you by the hour won’t pay for going over your hours since they will get screwed big time if VOSA find out they have being paying people OT for running bent.
saw a guy a month or so ago when doing an agency shift doing store deliveries, was filling in time sheet and hours worked, noticed guy above me had done a 19 hour shift not including taking a 45min break and this was a single man shift. i said to the guy in the traffic office, wow this guy likes his overtime. he hit the roof when he saw it and said he won’t ever be setting foot in here again and won’t be getting paid for anything over the 15hours.
The Biker:
Dont forget the that if you get caught in a vehicle with the fuse pulled then you are in it big time.
But (as I am agency driver and do not know my vehicles) there is a case, that I’ll drive vehicle with no speed limiter on it, but I can’t tell it on my daily check and until I will drive faster then 56 I’ll never know that it’s wrong.
What really is the advantage of pulling the fuse / blown fuse / dodging the fuse
Been there , done that , got the T`shirt. Not big - Not clever.
Is it so necessary ?
Apart from that , its quite clear out on the open road who is not running on the limiter as they go steaming by, they stick out like a sore thumb.
When every movement is clearly recorded by digi or card, unless your on the book and there are not many of those about.
Think about it !
Is it really worth that miniscule bit extra and worth the Fine/Points/ loss of licence or job higher insurance premiums on your own licence ?
The reason they fitted limiters was for Road Safety for All, thats you - your friends - your family - everyone. (and for fuel economy ).
Bradley’s O-licence had been revoked, and the court heard that as a result he had ‘lost everything’. Ordering Bradley to pay £100 costs, the magistrates said that they noted he had performed all the appropriate checks, including that for the speed limiter.
So the courts have decided he performed all appropriate checks, yet still gets screwed over, think that says more about these days than anything else.

the fuse in question is invisible in new trucks so you cant find it to pull it some sort of new stealth technology i beleive
While I’ve never pulled a fuse to by-pass the limiter, There was an inline fuse fitted to a 2800 DAF I used to do Spain and Italy with that disabled the tacho, often used to get in to Barcelona for the morning clearances, but that was back in the 80’s.
nightmare for all… spesh poor haulier. just shows heavy handed blind tc/courts didnt think anyone was bothering wi switches no more.to much messin a bout
