Saw this outfit on the A14 yesterday on my way down to felix, standard length container on a low loader, with what looked like blocks (of wood?! lol) to make the rest of the container sit level with the bit on the long neck.
never seen that sort of combo being pulled out of felix before or any where else come to that, are they designed for that sort of work??
any of the A14 snappers got a pic of it, would of prob met you guys about 1-2pm heading w/b.
didnt get chance to note reg plate/company on truck but it surely must of been an irish truck because i swear honest to god in the space between the floor of the lowloader and the bottom of the container on blocks it was carrying sheet metal

cheers

Why do you want to pull a container whilst doing a swan neck…

Usually call that bit over the pin “the dance floor” … least on theatre/exhibition removal vans
Wincanton, seven lincs and pentalver use them. Usually open tops on them loaded with tall machinery, or flat racks with the same. Or maybe a high cube has to go through a twelve foot shutter. They’re not as rare as you think. Some heavy haul ops do one way off hires for back loads too
dickinsons from up here do it all the time, caterpillar machine down to southampton docks them a 40"container back up to the north east
i must admit i saw a container on the back of a flat bed on the m18 today, dropped straight on the bed,and not chained roped or anything as far as i could see, how does that stay on, looked like it could slide off or roll off at the first r/o
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me, probably just doubling his load up & his money, one would assume the box was empty. I would doubt it loaded off the docks as I’m sure they’d insist on twistlocks. My semi has locks for a 40’ or a 20’ on the bottom deck, I quite often load a 20’ up top & chain it on, using sleepers to make a bed leveller.
Fly sheet
even though it was a flat he could have been really clever and used the twistlocks to hold it on

Yeah I thought that, what with today’s elf and safety, don’t think they would have loaded it, let alone let it out of the dept.
maybe that one above is overweight? STGO?
dont know if rules have changed…but if said lowloader is taxed as for moving plant it should not be used for general haulage…nor should it be used with a contank on full of water according to north yorkshires police…but hey we all make mistakes…
How legal is it to put a 45’ box on that trailer, he can probably just squeeze under the limit with a 12metre.
The truck in the pic has 40 standard on it were do you get 45 from
I think you’ll find it’s perfectly legal
That MAN Dickinson has been busy up this way recently with heavy machinery…
That Dickinson guy looks all right, probably spot on the 16.5m; the container is a 40’ hi-cube (see the code 45G1).
The STGO plate seems to be crossed out, so nothing extra big or heavy I’d guess.
How about this chap (not my pics):

like i said at the top of this post, they have been doing it for years, they run the caterpillar machines from peterlee down to southampton docks then bring a container back up to the north east

I can see that, I asked about running a 45’ on a tromboned stepframe, that would surely cause questions to be asked by the nice men in the Galaxy.
You can get 45’ boxes from most ports & railheads nowadays
Like Chaversdad said, Dickinsons have been doing that for donkeys years from Peterlee, saves them running back empty for another big CAT

very simliar apart from the middle and rear of the box were on stilts as the front of the box was loaded on the “stage” of the trailer. - thats why it stood out i think because it looked different all the other containers i past.
