The Dickenson boys take 6 wheeled dumpers down to i’m guessing Southampton and seem to backload with containers, see them quite often heading north up the A34

The truck in the pic has 40 standard on it were do you get 45 fromI think you’ll find it’s perfectly legal
I can see that, I asked about running a 45’ on a tromboned stepframe, that would surely cause questions to be asked by the nice men in the Galaxy.
You can get 45’ boxes from most ports & railheads nowadays
Like Chaversdad said, Dickinsons have been doing that for donkeys years from Peterlee, saves them running back empty for another big CAT
Surely it would be the same as running a 45 on a skel?
As long as the trailer was not overlength then it isn’t problem because the box is the load? Or have got this arse about face?

That was the question I was asking really, a skelly would be sat over the pin and the box would be at the front of the skelly not sat 3 feet behind the brake lights.

the container is the load not the trailer, and the trailer is an extendable one it can by the looks of it be legal length when the container is not on it.
just in the same was as a scanny longline can pull a 45` box over here on a skelly
as already mentioned , on the way to soton docks .

What I am trying to ask is can the low loader be used extended beyond 16.5metres in total?
I know that a low loader is exempt & can be run at 18metres but can it be run like that carrying a normal 45’ ISO container? It doesn’t appear to be carrying STGO plates
Can a Scania Longline or T Cab come under 16.5 whilst still keeping within the legal turning circles?
I need to be told.
mr dickinson is well within the rules under stgo / special types
the load must be 1 piece
if he were to extend the trailer and put 2 20ft boxes on then he would be in trouble
As said above, as long as the weight is within C&U regs, the trailer can be extended to carry the load, perfectly legal , and nothing to do with STGO regs, he is quite properly working under C&U , just because a combination can work under STGO doesnt mean they cant also work under C&U - the only limitation is those vehicles that are only STGO and not plated for C&U in this case it does not apply.
Thanks for the replies, anyway the point was proved by this picture on the web, obviously length doesn’t matter if you have a swan neck

again with that aslong as the unit and trailer are within the 16.5m limit thats fine, the fridge trailer is the load and can be removed though i would expect marker boards on the end of the trailer probably before some poor sap runs into it
