the maoster:
Ffs, you’re coming across like a bunch of finger wagging women! The op crossed solid whites with no risk to himself, his passengers nor any other road user and a bloody witch hunt has started from the whiter than white brigade, if any of you can tell me that you’ve never cut a corner where your years of experience have told you that it is safe to do so then I’ll call you a liar. Even the traffic cop didn’t go into the usual pre prepared lecture. The op asked for possible outcomes not bloody amateur Judge Judy’s.
Finger wagging? The OP claims that he HAD to cross the white lines “because of the length of his vehicle”. Further on he also claims that he drove the road in the opposite direction and -again - couldn’t drive the road WITHOUT crossing the lines.
This road is a main A road. Thousands of people, including coaches and HGVs, travel along it every day and manage perfectly well to drive the road WITHOUT crossing the white lines ----- yet OP claims that he CAN’T drive the road without doing so.
There is a marked difference between cutting a corner and being unable to drive a road because diddums’s vehicle is too long!!
Ah look, the sanctimonious Trucknet advanced drivers are out. I really wonder why anyone posts these days with you load of old women waiting in the wings to shoot everyone down.
My tuppence worth, copper sounds like a prat. Probably from the same school as the Trucknet Master Drivers Acedemy lot
Have to agree. There are two members on this post who the forum would benefit being rid of. I used to use this place a lot but now don’t bother because of people like this.
Thanks for those who actually helped rather than bi*ched because I’m not perfect.
Having spent nine years clearing up after “Met. advanced drivers” I tend to think that they are lulled into a false sense of security. Most people can drive round a skid pan without hitting anything. Doing the same thing on public roads takes a special kind of driver and many police drivers do not come into that category.

Id still trust them a ■■■■ sight more coming towards me at 100mph than average Joe soap whos bought himself a BMW and thinks hes Lewis Hamilton.
Not sure why your trying to take this thread on a big left turn into having a go at police drivers though

My point is that police drivers are humans like the rest of us and as such can misjudge situations, I am not having a go at police drivers, simply stating a fact.
@stagedriver, Joan Aitkin is the TC for Scotland and about 12mts ago, she gave instructions to Police Scotland to report any Commercial Drivers who are stopped for any infringement of Traffic Law. It was in CM but didn’t seem to be given much publicity, IIRC it was something to do with driver’s being caught up in company PI’s and finding they had prosecutions for speeding or phone use without the TC’s office being aware of their previous misdemeanors.
Regards
Dave Penn;
I think you got stopped by the same bored traffic cop who pulled me last year.
Its easy to keep off the whites on that road. You just drive like a yank…i.e. at 10mph.
I have run that road 100’s of times and hopefully never clipped those lines. Its not a tight road if driven at the correct speed even in the 12m+ length coach’s.
Pc bored stopped me as i was trundling along as wife was on the blower. He asked me where i had come from so i told him…the distillery at Glenfinnan.
Instant breath test…Didn’t have the heart to tell him i was on anti biotics so not drinking…

You are having a go. Said so in your first sentence…
The trouble with motoring is, generally, you often get caught out by other drivers. As any professional driver should know.
As I said in a different thread where the op was knocking police driving: yes they are human; but driving on blue lights is not as simple as some like to think. You have to pass and receive information; process that information; consider your options and legislation for dealing with the incident you’re going to; navigate; whilst driving at challenging speeds, trying to make progress through traffic, the drivers of which generally have average to poor driving skills and do the strangest of things when they see blue lights.
So yes, mistakes happen, particularly when all of the above is lumped in. You can drive as defensively as you like, but you will never eliminate all risk.
