Going up M6 near Preston today Northbound VOSA car pulls alongside then pulls in front message board lights up (follow me) pulls into compound, chap gets out with notepad, asks a few question, who,s wagon are you loaded etc etc,ok pull over there for vehicle check. Bloke come,s out of office walks round wagon looks at the tyres! ok driver you can go!!! Ten minutes at most, NO Tacho check or F ALL :astonished: :open_mouth:  Whats that all about? No plod present so not to sure about it?

Got stopped on the A52 this morning, same thing just asked me a few questions and sent me on my way. Wish they were all that easy

Had something similar once on the A1M northbound near Rotherham, just above the M18. Got pulled in by a police car, who then drove off and the vosa official asks me “What the heck has he pulled you in for? You’re in a new truck, new trailer and your mid lift is up” He asked to see a few of my cards, though not the one in the tacho and wished me a pleasant onward journey. Apparently I only got pulled because I was the last available truck to pull before the police car got beyond the inspection point.

what are you not sure about?

the police don’t need to be present any more for VOSA to pull you over for inspection

They quite often send you on your way fairly quickly if you pass the “attitude test”.

I reckon that’s pretty much it, a quick look at the truck (checked your landing legs all the way up, no fridge on the seat and torch on show  ) they can soon make a judgement that they’d probably be better looking else where for problems.

Fully agree with this. Had a pleasant vosa chappy approach me a couple of years back after I had parked up. He asked to see my digi card and my current (analogue) tacho and that was all.

I also think it help as to what company you work for… i.e if you work for a company that regularly passes roadside tests and keeps all vehicle well maintained.

Same happened to me not long ago, he was ok, it was our fairly new wagon and didn’t show an interest in me as there was a banged up old daff 7.5 toner in front with a ■■■■■■ digger on the back!

They don’t need a plod now, they used to need one to pull you but now have powers to pull on their own.

Well not sure about that.

If someone in a ford galaxy with vosa decals and a digital sign in the back window trys pulling you over you crack on!

I will pull over as I always have lol

vosa have had powers to stop for a few years now and they also work on a traffic light system . so if your companys got a good annual test record and not had any probs at previous road checks it will come up green on there computer and they tend to just have a quick wander round.any new operator is automatically put on red until they prove there being good lads.

i am sure not stopping for vosa carries the same penalty as not stopping for the police :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Yep, when they stop me, I turn the engine off, give them a friendly smile and say “Morning gentlemen, how are you?”

That normally gets me off to a good start, then when they say “We just want to take a look around your truck, is that OK?”, I say “That’s fine, you go ahead, if anything goes wrong with it then I’m the first person who’s going to get his neck snapped, I just look on at as being given a free MOT”, and that’s normally pretty much it. A five minute cursory look at my truck and cards, a friendly warning about some minor infringement or another, which I take in good grace and promise to rectify in the future, and I’m on my way.

I don’t have a problem with VOSA. If they didn’t exist, some of the scumbags I have worked for would have willingly sent me out with lethally defective brakes or steering.

theres a guy on here works for vosa and he posted som pics of what he,s seen some shocking stuff and the drivers were liucky to get pulled before they killed someone

I bet one of them was the pic of the missing brake caliper on a trailer and then there was another with a brake hose ■■■■■■■ with cable ties because the actuator was shagged!

Yep, I had to trans-ship a load from a Lithuanian once at Dover, half of one wheel was missing and it was only held on with four wheelnuts, and four of his trailer brake chambers weren’t working.

sounds right and a few loose wheel nuts dont tell me there photo shopped lol

No fridge on seat… Do vosa not like this, anyone been told about this when stopped…
Just curious, I won’t have one on seat, for safety reasons…

Ah, the good ole Lithuanian’s!
Slighty unrelated, I can remember taking a unit for test about 15 years ago, there was an old Transit pick-up that had been impounded at the test centre. The chassis behind the cab was that rotten, it was bowing between the cab and the body. I reckon it was only the prop shaft and the hand brake cable keeping it together. Frickin unbelievable, like something off the flintstones.
