Done it myself. Its things like that that carrying a penknife is useful for. Cut the remnants off the brass fitting at the back of the cab, tidy up the end of the suzy and shove it back on the brass fitting. Suzy fixed, wagon rolling, boss none the wiser.

Lolā¦think you had every right to. Do you know what started that fire?
The rubber flap over the battery was missing, the grease gun rolled on top of the battery and shorted the battery, smoked the grease and caught fire. It heated the fuel tank and burned through the lines, meaning that there was a 200l supply of hot fuel on tap.
3 fire engines later and it was out, we pumped the tank out and took the machine to Volvo at Duxford where they dragged it off with a 40t 360.
It was a write off, but the actual visible damage was minor.
Never done it (YET !) Alzeimers isnāt far away
But I did come in to a ripped out Leky line that one of the āTrunky Monkeysā managed to do a week after I got my brand new motor, earlier this year.
Managed to get an electric one hooked up round the trailer once after screwing round causing it to cut through some of the wires⦠Called office and was told to repair it and head to Scania for a new one, so spent about 30mins slicing the outer sleeve and joined the wires and re taped it to find Iād also pulled the connectors back⦠Never done it againā¦
Not yet pulled the suzies off, but did pull the hydraulic lines off when I first started tank work. Made one hell of an oily mess
[Zb] pulling them off. Couldnāt get the sodding red line back on today after loading⦠it pushed back Still, eventuallyā¦
Everybody has; if not they will.
My turn was right outside the office with both the boss and fitter in the yard. The boss called me a wooden headed stunt and then I had to go and tell the fitter that it wasnāt possible to pull a trailer with air lines and could I possibly have some shorter ones. He was a typical fitter, so dry he made the Sahara look like a rain forest, and I had to endure his wit all the while he fitted a new set.

turn the engine off and keep pumping the foot brake until the needle is low in the red. Easy then

Having had to to raise to trl suspension anyway the air was already low but I think it was more I couldnāt get a good angle on it⦠practice and exercise is called for methinks!

Nooo Scania v8. The Mercs arenāt too bad⦠I like the modern cruise controls

Ah, the do I struggle or get covered in grease choice.
As a relatively new driver, I had my first experience of palm couplings the other week. After Iād worked out what they were, and had coupled up, I got another driver to look it over as it didnt seem right to me. The space behind the cab and front of trailer was a tad tight, (lines were basically pretty close to back of cab, and I thought they could catch), fixed fifth wheel, it was decided that how they were would be the best I could hope for, and off I went.
All went well on my trip from Ipswich to Brighton, got to the drop, and after a couple of shunts to reverse into customers yard, I came to a sudden stop, along with the hiss of escaping air. Upon checking the lines, I found that the coupling had sheared off completely from the trailer, all I could think of to do was to hit the shunt button to enable me to get the unit off the road and allow the traffic to pass, then ring for help.
Not done the airlines but come close to ripping the Anderson lead off recently. Some numpty in a van had parked right opposite a gate Iād just reversed in to so it was really tight on my way out. I didnāt want to risk trailer swing taking his van out so I pulled half way out, got out and walked round the front of the truck to have a look down the blind side and noticed the Anderson lead still plugged in and at full stretch.
Had I have driven out without getting out to check Iād almost certainly have ripped the thing out so van numpty did me a favour for once
Got to a customer Friday and my white electrical lead was hanging off on the unit end. Must have come out mid drive as I always check theyāre plugged in as part of my daily checks.
And Iāve ripped the holder off for the 6th suzie (to power batteries for double deckers) when pulling single deckers by not stowing the lead behind all the others. When I turned a corner the other leads must have took this lead with it and the holder is only a flimsy piece of plastic.
Yip caught a odd one one the curtain ratchets, first time it happened had to wait a few hours for Mercedes to show up and fix so after that I got a set of sparesand kept a basic set of tools.

Thatās what we do too, but I know some companies wonāt let drivers change a busted airline. Crazy when you consider the cost of a mechanics call out.
Pulled the ABS suzie to shreds once. My boss at the time had run round put the brake on, wound the legs down, pulled the pin jumped and up dropped the airlines, while I sat in the cab but forgot to drop the ABS. He said go - I did and snap, egg on his face not mineā¦

You had a get out of jail free card because it was the boss, but tbh I wouldnāt even trust a family member if they told me I was ok to pull out! It only takes a minute of your time to check after all.
thank you for this thread I did it the other week for the first time! Tiring night job where you drive for 4 hours to drop the trailer but then have to do some shunting around the yard!! before leaving at 4:30am to return, which is 4.5 hours as you hit rush hour! So at 4:25 went to drop one trailer and so tired I wasnāt capable of thinking, brakes, legs totally forgot air and uncoupled and pulled away! Waited until 05:50 for Mercedes to come out with new lines. Thoroughly p1ssed off that morning
Semi-regular occurrence with our shunters at one of my old firms. They soon learnt what the āthwackā on the back of the cab meant⦠crucial thing then was to floor the throttle, so the unit cleared the main part of the yard before it was stranded with no air
