Procedure shock

Well, just been for a driving assessment with a big company, and I have to go from a 5 minute walk around for a unit and trailer, to 30 minutes for the same thing, any suggestions on how to fill in the extra 25 minutes? In view of the transport office, so no rude ones!

If it’s like our place take some filler and white paint for the damage you’ll find.

Check the pressure of each tyre then spend 30 mins trying to pump them up with a bike pump.

I find it amazing that these company’s get any work done with all this ■■■■■■■■.

Have a tommytank, find a colleague in the same predicament and have a tommytank together. If any ones willing in the transport office ask them to give you a tommytank.

Or on a less serious note:
Check tyres both outer and inner may need torch
Move vehicle forward a bit after pre engine checks to check parts of tyres not visible before.
Check nuts (not the ones you checked having a pre shift JArthur)
Inspect brakes
check air lines
Then all the other stuff, dog clip 5th wheel securiyy and stuff.

Oh and check your hourly paid and repeat on a daily basis and twice before a weekly rest.

30 minutes is a ■■■■ take.

Our fitters don’t spend 30 minutes doing a six weekly.

Or you could do the driver checks properly

Check everything is fit for purpose, working, safe, operational, legal and then do the same for the trailer.

H.

Oh, if it’s the green trucks then the key fob on the scanias operate all the lights in sequence

30 minutes :open_mouth: I have the same unit all the time and I can do a good check in five minutes.
If I had a different truck every day then obviously it’s gonna take longer but 30 minutes is a joke.

Vosa only ask you to show 15mins, that will do me.

There is nothing in law saying you have to show 15 mins for daily checks. It’s just some company procedures.

Do the usual checks which can take 15 mins by the time you’ve closely examined tax and O licence discs, trailer plate etc, then spend 15 minutes cleaning the lights, mirrors and windows inside and out.

If the company are stupid enough to come with this bullshine, milk it for all it’s worth, they deserve it.

Does the 30 minutes include time to rectify any problems like getting blown bulbs changed? as already suggested I’d spend the time cleaning the windows or the interior. Give the tyres a very good check over.

This^^^

I’d also add that I’d pour myself a cup of coffee whilst sat in the cab ‘doing’ paperwork. Send our lass a text and perhaps re-tune the radio from ‘■■■■ FM’ to something I can listen to. All of which they pay me to do.

These people that make this BS up, really have no idea whatsoever… :grimacing:

If you do it properly there’s no way you can do a walk round in 5 minutes if you’re also including checking load security. Takes me nearly 30 minutes from turning up to traffic office to driving out the gate, at least 20 minutes of that doing checks and retightening straps.

I find it amazing that these company’s get any work done with all this [zb].

They get more work done because their wagons don’t get tugged by VOSA, run out of oil half way through the day or arrive at the destination with the load strewn all over the back of the trailer. Unlike the [zb]hole you work at they also don’t tend to schedule work so that you’re chasing yourself up your own backside trying to get the job done before you run out of time.

Fair enough, not trying to spread rubbish.

I’m just going off what the TM said after the auditors came in and listed 34 times over the last few months of occasions where I didn’t. Had to sign a few documents to say I have now been made aware of my ‘mistake’.

I suppose im going to have to get used to tossing it off for my weeks wage in future, it’s gonna be a bit like being back at exhell!!

Wow, the places you’ve worked at before have done a real good job of brainwashing you if you think that not chasing yourself up your own backside is hell.

When I started, places like that were very few and far between!!
But does seem to be the other way round more these days.

Get a coffee on the way to the unit ,stick your card in and chill, really neat writing on your check sheets etc ,check everything propper, then youve done whats expected and it cant come back and bite you on the arse
