Prize idiot tipper driver

This one is a real corker Ladies & Gents, please bear with me.

yesterday afternoon on the A47 westbound near East Dereham, we were in the usual line of a few vehicles, 2 cars in front of me, then an 8 wheel tipper. Behind me was a Rangie with a woman driver.

Out of luck or observation i saw one of those big boxvan type ambulances approaching from behined, about 3 cars back & moved as far left as i could in my little van, this prompted Mrs Rangie to check her mirrors & do the same. the 2 cars in fron of me, myself and the Rangine all moved WELL over to the left & kept rolling until there was a chance for the amb to go, then we backed right off.

After the ambulance had passed us all, he sat on the arse of the 8W tipper for 3 miles !!!

He was weaving or “half cabbing” the tipper still displaying his blues & i could still hear the sirens, but the tipper just kept on going on his limiter (well my speedo was showing just under 60), we passed 4 turnings that he could have pulled into but nope, he was oblivious.

After 3+ miles we reached some twintrack & off the ambulance went. I let a few impatient cars go, then moved over & slowly started to overtake, now we all know that looking into his mirror from my small van, i should see HIM, but no, all i could see was the rear of the door pillar & the edge of his shoulder. So he was driving blind to the rear, obviously deaf & a complete incompetent

I sat beside this jerk for half a mile & he just kept staring forward, didn’t even know i was there :open_mouth:

I did get a name off the truck but forget it now, I was so tempted to pull him up or ring the plod, not wanting to be a grass but FGS this IDIOT isn’t safe driving a push bike !

If you or anybody you know runs battered old FL10 Yellow tippers from East Dereham, PLEASE help get this jerk out of the cab. He looked as if he was in his 60’s. I just wish I had written down his company name & taken a detour to have a chat with his boss. LIVID is an understatement.

It’s jerks like this that give you lot a bad name, as much as I have loved taking the P ~ It’s these sort I just can’t see as funny, one day it might be one of my family or your family the ambulance is too late getting to because this can’t drive.

Rant over - sorry

Whilst not all tipper drivers are bad, in my opinion i rate them along side motorcyclists for their stupidity and recklessness.

Thing is how many tipper drivers actually have licences?

The problem here (i.e. this post) is that ‘we’ are doing the stereotyping thing, the very thing that we spend a lot of time complaining about.

It’s not very long ago we were all pee’d off because a TV company was going to/did make a documentry that stereotyped HGV drivers.

Whilst I don’t disagree that there are some bad tipper drivers (probably 'cos of how they’re paid), there are also bad tautliner, reefer, flats, tilts, etc, drivers.

:unamused: :unamused:

Well i do try to be fair & treat you ALL equally with the contempt you deserve  i was an 8 legger driver for 2or 3 years, thenmoved onto artics, both bulk and flats / tautliners, so which am I >> does that make me a scumbag tipper driver because that was the forst HGV i ever drove regularly, or does it make me slightly better than them because i drove an artic ?

IMHO - it’s not the type of truck that matters, it’s the nut hlding the wheel that makes the difference & most days i could, if i wanted to, single out a dork from any type of vehicle, although not usually as bad as this one !

having drove 4, 6, 8 wheel, & artic tippers, thinking about it determindly, i cant honestly say in which of them was i most unobservant, i can guess, but it wouldnr be scientific!

I really hope im in that 1% then :imp:

I class myself as a PROFESSIONAL lorry driver, how many of you who are quick enough to slate 99% of tipper drivers can honestly say hand on heart, that after you park your wagon up on a night you get out your wheel brace and 4 foot scaffold pole and physicaly check every single wheel nut, as your DAILY vehicle check list states TYRES/WHEELNUTS, not many i think cus “I aint doing that after ive finished driving allday”, well we do where I work because being a PROFESSIONAL driver isnt just about how far away from home you might be or having the best tassles on your curtains.
It annoys the crap out of me when people tar me with “the tipper driver brush” and think just because our wagons are sometimes crap that everything about us and our job is to. well sorry to burst your bubble but I drive a 54 plate scania (top spec for a day cab) take home £450 a week yes take home, start at 7 finish at 4.30, so carry on tarring and ill keep taking the money (wheres theres muck theres money).
RANT OVER

oh and before anybody says anything, every single driver at ours(15 of them) all have davey hour gaurds so we keep within the law

Whilst I admire you by actually checking your wheelnuts I would advise against it using a scaffold bar, you need to use a torque wrench because if you tighten every wheelnut a little bit everyday, (only a tiny amount) you will eventualy end up losing wheels because what happens and I have seen it happen is the wheel studs get stretched and stretched over time to a point where become so weak that a big bump or bang to a wheel (common in off road vehicles) could snap the studs off

Where as a torque wrench would check the nut is it the correct tightness (if thats a word?) without adding to the torque on the nut

Just a pointer not meant to be a telling off,

I for one think there are a great amount of drivers that cant drive, tippers included but anyone who does not move for an emergency vehicle makes my blood boil, there is no excuse

They are White/Red with flashing headlights and blue lights and bloody loud sirens/horns, moving very quickly usually

Wheres the excuse?

couldnt agree more discopete, and i make a point of blasting my horn a couple of times when i see the blues to get the attention of the cars in front to look in there mirrors.
With the wheel nuts I agree with what your saying because ive seen what happens when people overtighten them ie: they just spin and spin or as you say they snap off, I dont tighten them as in make them move everyday, its more a case of just put a slight amount of pressure on it, not enough to move the nut but just enough to make sure its not loose, and i really dont mind doing it cus with automatic tailgates and electric sheets the only reason i need to get my fat arse out the cab is to cool the brakes down with a sprinkle  so the exersize does me good

I said it before and i’ll say it again, most tipper drivers drive like ■■■■■ and most of em could’nt drive a Tonka tipper,

BAN EM ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Going along near Longmarston (near Stratford) yesterday I do the load fairly regular ,the road is narow bumpy full of potholes grooves etc,and the amount of tipper drivers just blatantly driving too fast and ■■■■■■■ dangerously.
one yesterday came too fast round a bend towards me must of been doin 55-60 missed hitting my trailer by about 3 inches,i was fuming big time :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:
I was gonna drive tippers before i did class 1,glad i did’nt
■■■■■■■ ■■■■■ the lot of em :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Thats really funny to read your reply bikermonkey, then at the end read your signiture :unamused:

this is my wagon bikermonkey and im very often up and down the road that takes you from stratford to gaydon (fosseway i think) so if you see me dont wave cus ill be going far to fast to be able to let go of the sterring wheel to wave back :smiling_imp:

sim’s metals, what a dog hole that is! we used to load 20ft’ers in there and got punctures galore because the ■■■■■■■ wouldnt sweep the yard! or if they did sweep it, a loading shovel would soon run about spilling stuff all over the place, if he didnt get ya, the pools of water with steel frag in would!
