Prima Donna

I’ve worked in a variety of industries since leaving school and I’m fairly new to this driving about and getting paid business.

One thing I’ve noticed in this game is the amount of drivers who have an overinflated view of their self importance and think they’re the best thing since sliced bread. Most of them look like they could have been the best thing before sliced bread, but that’s another matter.

Nearly everyday I stand in the office as some scruffy old steering wheel attendant swaggers in demanding to know why his truck is being serviced tomorrow or why his truck is needed for the nightshift tonight.

The way they speak to the office staff is nothing short of disgusting and I don’t understand how they get away with it. Some of them seem to truly believe the truck belongs to them and suddenly come over all Mariah Carey if something happens that they don’t agree with.

Why are there so many prima donnas in this industry? Are you one? Don’t you think it’s about time you realised your place, shut your mouth and just got on with it?

Next time you’re thinking about kicking off because you’ve been asked to pick up a trailer that isn’t the right colour for your unit, it would probably be worth remembering that given enough time and training, a chimpanzee could do your job and without all the egotistical moaning.

Morning.

Ooft ! No wonder your face is smashed :open_mouth:

Knowing where you work, I can understand what your saying totally.

I go in there occasionally on agency, its not a bad job, but the attitude of the drivers stinks at times. Some are spot on, others would be sacked at other firms.

Perhaps if some of the office staff had some respect for the drivers they would have a different attitude towards them.

It is a two way thing.

Simply a reflection of the general level of ignorance and bad manners found in most walks of life in this country these days.

Manners maketh the gentleman, income or perceived social standing has nothing to do with it.

says it all! 98% of freight goes by road into the shops for the first class citizens to spend all their money in whilst us second class citizens ( probably less ) drive the trucks! Professional drivers they call us! Manners maketh man pal! If you don’t like/ get it PLEASE Foxtrot Oscar back to another industry! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: agreed there’s lots of merchant bankers who think they own their trucks but they’ve probably been driving a lot longer than he who drives the DESK! :unamused:   :sunglasses: obviously you ain’t worked for any cowboys in the eighties/ nineties pal :exclamation:  :bulb: JOG ON PAL :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

A lot of us (Me included) say MY truck/van. But they aren’t. There’s only a few on here or in general that have THEIR own. They belong to the company/boss who has the ultimate say on who does what. Simple as. :unamused:

Well, a lot of people say “My house” when what they mean is “The bank’s house”. But you wouldn’t be too impressed if you came home one day and the bank said “Sorry, this is our house, you just have a mortgage on it. Go and sleep in that house over there”.

Yes,but if something happens to the company vehicle it suddenly becomes your vehicle!,I.e.when did you damage “your” truck?,"your"truck is in for service etc.
I think I’d be looking closer to home for the attitude old chap, when you e got a few more years under your belt then maybe you’ll understand where some drivers are coming from,I’m not condoning the attitude of some drivers towards office staff but respect is a 2 way thing.

It’s only the banks house once you default on your repayments. You don’t borrow the companies truck as a rule.

That made me chuckle!!

and then when you get to your"new"house, you find someone has smashed the toilet basin and the central heating don`t work

No, it is the bank’s house until you make the final payment, that is why the bank have the deeds and not you. And if you have an interest-only mortgage, you do not and never will be the owner of the house, you are a renter. You simply rent the money from the bank which was used to purchase the house.

Looks like we’ve got our first diva.

I don’t think an extensive career behind a steering wheel is anything to be particularly proud of Fatboy slimshow. If anything, it just shows a lack of ambition and inability to do a proper job. To use that as the basis of your argument as to why it’s acceptable for you to spit your dummy out and have a tantrum is hilarious. You are exactly what I’m talking about.

I agree with the others who said respect is a two way thing. However, in my limited experience it’s not the office staff who act like spoilt little brats, it’s always the drivers.

I blame the parents.

I have the deeds to my house and I have a mortgage I’ve had them for years . A lot of information and old drawings from when it was altered . Quite a good read if I could be arsed .

I would happily go sleep in the house over the road as long as the 26 year old blonde that bought last year is sleeping in it at the same time

What you have to bear in mind is that somebody who passed his test five minutes ago is bound to know more about the industry than people who have been working in it for years.
