Did a 11 hr shift today, and all I was planned for was to go out and collect a tri full of rubbish ,no deliveries, sat on ■■■ twiddling thumbs rest of time( was on poa so don’t panic
)
No deliveries, just run empty to pick up load of rubbish and back, what the price, any one know,
Did you get paid? If so, who cares?
I assume it was recyleable goods ie paper, cardboard and plastic bottles.if so its no bad money per ton
I got told by a viridor driver a few years ago it was £60 per ton. Not sure if it’s the same today.
Top tip rubbish in a transfer station is between 90 and 100 quid a ton
Landfill Tax from the 1st April 2014 is going up to £80 per ton (£72 at the moment) That’s on top of the tipping charge (not sure what that is now ? Probably around £70-£80 per ton) so a 25 ton load will cost a cool £4000 @ £160 per ton.
(I’m not 100% sure) but Recycling doesn’t have a Tax charge, that’s why they’re trying to recycle everything.
Also that’s the reason some of our ‘Less Environmentally Friendly’ Friends use Lay-bys & Farmers Fields to dump their rubbish in.
Not being racist or any thing- but you don’t see too many Travellers queuing on the weighbridge at a landfill site. Lol.
We send no rubbish to landfill now it’s all sorted for recycling and the residual is shredded bailed and sent to holland and belgum for incineration in there power stations. Anyone who does ferry trailers will quite possibly reload trailers with it as it’s big business.
There’s a couple of places in the uk burn it but the nimby brigade don’t like it. Shame really as it s got to be better than landfill

It’s not as dear as that our nearest landfill is tax plus £30 a ton

Been out of the game for a couple if years, that’s why I said ‘Probably’.
£30 seems cheap though ?
I suppose they struggle for volume the bailed stuff is 40 a ton to get rid of including transport.
Obviously you got the cost of sorting it shredding it and bailing it but still got to be cheaper

and Estonia! a big local power station was converted to run on rubbish, but as our 1.3M population doesn’t generate enough, we have to import it, from Ireland mostly. doesn’t mean the heat or electricity is any cheaper and it still costs around €60 a ton to take it to the local landfill

That’s not quite accurate. We do still landfill. Just hugely reduced amounts in the last 5 years
Isn’t it true that the London Waste EcoPark in north London created power from incinerating waste and took the particles from the smoke to use in road building but was stopped because locals moaned, despite the smoke being clean? Cant win with some people. I used to driver London Waste trucks a lot back in the day. Always enjoyed bouncing round the landfill in a 6x4 artic!

The ash is used in making thermalite blocks.

Sorry will report to the grammer police forthwith
People just don’t realize the amount of waste that’s exported, one firm I know has Dutch,Belgium or E/Euro walking floors in all the time back loading baled waste, another place has thousands of tons of mixed glass stock piled, when the price moves up it gets loaded away.
Good Lord, I’d forgot about those gas powered Fodens that’s ruined my day
