Its also your responsibility to down load your card as well as the companys …

Nope. It’s only a drivers responsibility to make their card available to download.

Is that Not the same thing ■■

I thought you were implying that it’s the drivers responsibility to make sure his card is downloaded, because as far as i’m aware it isn’t. If Poundworld or whoever choose never to download your card, that’s their problem, unless you have refused to let them do it.

Im not sure ,

The machine is always available to download your card and You are told it must be downloaded at least every 28 days …

I would think it is the drivers responsibility to make it available within those 28 days to be down loaded …

although I think they are going to change procedures so its downloaded every week along with a few other things …

What is the average length of night shift at PW? My agency are sending me down there next week, been told long shifts with average of 12 hours. Is that so?

I was refusing to do deliveries for Poundworld at my last agency an dwould only do shunting from garforth to Normanton and Birstall. The organisation is pathetic, I have done class 1 and class 2 for them in the past. The class 1 runs are planned to max hours and regularly go over, many drivers leave and there is a big staff turnover. You have to unload your artic via the tailift often in very difficult locations like a shopping centre where you take off your pallets and put them in a lift to send to the shop. The pallets are always overloaded too high too wide so you end up handballing goods off the pallet to get it in the lift. I had Northampton and Bedford once and they had loaded the trailer the wrong way round so I had to unload Bedfords in the middle of a main road and then unload Northampton, no one there to help me and then I had to reload Bedfords products and go there. When you have done your drop you have to load all the emply pallets and the shops rubbish o take back to Normanton. When you finally get back there is a queue of trucks waiting to dump there rubbish in the corner of the yard. Many times the post codes are wrong so don’t rely on your sat nav PHONE the shop.

Class 2 is even worse

In the end I told my agency I will work poundland but only shunting which is hard even for them to get wrong and is good money.

There is an emphasis on infringements now as they have been done by VOSA. A few drivers were sacked and more jacked in. Take some pop to drink or water as you will need it and the shop will charge you 50p a can :unamused:

Does anyone know what the law is on load restraints as the curtainsider here doesn’t have any.

Your load has to be secured depending on what the load is and whether you have a load bearing curtain.

Far as i’m aware the law in the UK basically states that you need load restraint on all loads as the curtains are just a weather shield, of course many drivers exercise judgement & sack this off for light palletised loads. The question really is if you have an accident, is the load going to stay inside the trailer? If it’s bog rolls - yes. If it’s booze - no.

Only exception being if you have a certified load bearing curtain (will have a yellow badge on the side or rear door), in which case full palletised loads can be left unstrapped.

gov.uk/government/publicati … -xl-rating

"Trailers and vehicles that have been constructed to the EN 12642 XL standard are rated to withstand a minimum of 40% of the rated payload to the side, without additional load securing when used in accordance with the manufacturer’s directions.

DVSA will accept an EN 12642 XL rated vehicle/trailer to retain 50% of the rated payload without any extra securing, as long as the load fills the entire load area to the front, rear and to within 80mm of the side (this is often called a ‘positive fit’)."

There are 3 key European Standards documents relating to the safe securing of loads, including EN 12640, EN 12641 and EN 12642 (L & XL). If you are told you have a load bearing curtain you should see one of these EN numbers on it and that’s what VOSA go by.

Going to poundworld normanton on Sunday to pick up a load. Been told my load should be ready for 2pm. Are they good at getting you out on time or should I bring something to keep me entertained while I’m delayed?

Oh that fills me with confidence.[emoji3] Done their place in Garforth last year a few times and they were pretty good. Got you out close to your time.

I was just saying in general as a driver, no idea what they’re like nowadays, it’s been a few years since I’ve been & only tipped.

Get back to work you.

Done it today. We arrived at 2.30pm and trailers were both all closed and sealed, ready to go. Shunters friendly and helpful. They moved our loaded deckers out of the way so we could drop the empty ones in there place to save us faffing about. Downside, I think I got the trailer full of soap powder and cola though. It was a heavy bugger.[emoji36]

I am thinking of giving poundworld a try. Does anyone now what they are like to work for what days hours worked and pay for class 1 and class 2 thanks.

Was there the other day it is a cesspit and the goods in staff are all rats.

I have been doing class 1 work there via agency since December and its not too bad. Max 2 drops a run usually (although some of the town centre stores can be a nightmare to get to in an artic), maybe a backload too, and quite a bit of handballing involved shifting the pallets off via tail lift. But you do get left alone to get on with it, transport very rarely get in contact with you while your out, it’s all pretty chilled. There are usually opportunities for nights out too if your delivering to stores further afield.

Not a bad gig in my opinion but not everyone’s cup of tea :sunglasses:

class 2 is 8.50/hr class 1 is 9.50/hr time and half after 40 paid breaks…jobs bang on if you dont mind normal retail work tailift deliverys…you put em on the tailift staff pull em off at most shops…some you do it all but there not too bad…can be quite challenging getting into some of the shops with the artics but there all doable…if you get on with it and dont be a knob your left alone…

How many hours a week do you work on average at poundworld? Do you only work 4 days a week? Thanks guys

I delivered to Poundland at Harlow a few weeks back.

Went there clean shaven. By the time I was tipped I looked like an Islamic preacher.
