They have to put a bit of weight over the drive axle of those 6x4 outfits. The subject of hounds and canines makes me wonder why they didn’t put that parcel on a Greyhound!

Yes Ray The Hollies  , my favourite was Look Through Any Window.

Look through any window yea, what do you see ?.
Drivers going down the road, rushing around with their heavy loads.

It’s that song Ray that made a lot of the lads on here become window cleaners.

And now for something completely different.

Talking about janitorial supplies Malc,do you remember Bogg Transport? I can’t remember whether they came after Slater or Link on the wet fish job but IIRC it was the white and blue livery on all of them.

hiya,

Hullo Chris,
John Bogg was Boggs first, carting all the fish off the old Fish Dock. Later he started Link, and even later still he bought out Slaters Haulage.
Cheers, Archie.

The Bogg family owned Link, Slater and was related to Alan Carter. They were big into fish with Bogg Holdings, still active in Bridlington.

You may remember some of these famous names from the Hull Fishing Industry.

In 1961 Associated Fisheries acquired an interest hi an engineering
company called James Robertson & Sons (Fleetwood) Ltd.; in 1964 they
further diversified into catering, operating in London, by the end of 1965, six
fish restaurants under the name of Seafare Restaurants (Basildon) Ltd.
and a fish restaurant near Leeds operated by Ramsden (White Cross) Ltd.
In 1965 Associated Fisheries’ transport businesses, Link Road Transport
(Hull) Ltd. and Hull Ice Transport Ltd., were augmented by the acquisition
in Grimsby of Humber Warehousing Group with 118 long-distance trucks,
79 of which are refrigerated. Link and Hull Ice operated between them
40 vehicles, two of which were refrigerated. Associated Fisheries’ total
vehicle complement therefore numbers 158 vehicles, 81 of which are refrigerated.
There have been further small acquisitions of transport companies in
Lowestoft and Caister.

Sorry for going off track, back to the madness :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for that Malc, and by the way there’s nowt wrong with a bit of saneness now and again.I remember Link delivering wet fish off a 40ft trailer into shop doorways at night when I was on nights for Littlewoods.

Henery Brothers - “Fish is your life”

I think that a lot of these old clips from the archives have been shown on here before, so for the benefit of the “coffin dodgers” :open_mouth: who have forgotten all about them here they are again.

I like this one but it’s a shame that they don’t show the scene where the traffic supervisor say’s to the driver " and if you see Harry G and Norman in that cafe tell them to get their backsides into gear and deliver those loads of Welsh Rabbits up to Northampton.

And in our discussion group this evening we will be asking why after they had broken the nearside spring did they decide to fit it onto the offside and not once did the driver smack his mate with a rope across his hands so is elf and safety starting to get out of control and where will it all lead to. :frowning: . Also, in 1952 were there too many ■■■■■■ on the road causing problems for lorry drivers and when will they stop becoming a menace to the general public ?.

Oh my God :open_mouth: , no posts on here for over three days  . I hope that there hasn’t been an epidemic over there and that The Grim Reaper has had to work overtime :unamused: .
So just in case any of you are waiting for the man from The Co-op to come around with his tape measure here is something for you to watch.

P.S. I wouldn’t wait for Archie Shuttleworth as it might take him a while to get there, you know what the trains are like where he lives. :unamused:
