I’ve had Scott’s Porage oats for breakfast for a long time.I tried salt once, and once only Has to be a Scot’s thing, but they hedge their bets by saying to use sugar or salt to taste otherwise not many of us softies South of the border would ever eat the stuff

my ole man would take salt, im a half teaspoon of sugar man myself, COYBIG
half milk, half water, pinch of salt… make it about the same consistency as concrete, simmer gently for ten minutes, then serve with milk over and a couple of teaspoons of sugar, ( 'er indoors puts syrup over hers )
Brought up on salt as a wean but now it comes with sliced banana on top drizzled with honey…
I always have a small pinch of salt in my porridge I use rolled oats with salt milk and some sultanas for added sophistication ,bung it in the micro wave for 3 minutes ,give it a stir and 1 more minute.
Brought up on very heavely salted porridge made by my dad, defo a scottish thing, with copious amounts of sugar on top, it was vile but had to be eaten.
Also what ever was left in the pot, was poured into a draw, then cut up once dried out as oat cakes, thinks that’s also a Scottish thing, remember my gran doing that, both from Glasgow!
Porridge with prunes. Delicious.
The smell of it makes me want to puke
the wifes family are scots. her uncles used to have great slabs of cold dried porridge in their snap tins with jam on it . sometimes it was plain dried porridge which they fried and then put the jam on . they never offered me any , thank god . i just have the lnstant porridge now , done in the microwave . cheers , dave
I used to make oatcakes with half a cwt.of medium oatmeal when I worked in a bakery. When I started mixing my arms were quite hairy but when the job was done they were not.I suppose that modern bakeries would use a mixing machine.
