Poll: Are you happy with your current job?

Contraflow:

If you wanted a black and white answer why not just ask a black and white question in your opening post?

I did ask a black and white question, it’s some of the replies that aren’t black and white.

Imagine if I asked my drug dealer “is this cocaine pure?” and he replied “yes, but it’s mixed with a load of other stuff.” The cocaine isn’t pure so the correct answer is “no”.

Some of the “yes” replies on this thread are similar to the drug dealer’s reply.

I was happy at 5am this morning whilst still in bed. I was unhappy getting up at 5.30. By 6 something had made me happy again. At 6.15 some roadworks made me unhappy. At 6.30 some graffiti on a passing vehicle made me happy. At 7 am I was once again unhappy as the gates were still closed where I’m supposed to load. At 7.07 I was once again happy as they let me use their cheap canteen whilst waiting.

So to summarise, sometimes I’m happy, sometimes I’m not.

Are you happy with that?

That’s great, but are you happy with your current job?

I’m not overly concerned if some passing graffiti made you happy, nor am I overly concerned if some locked gates made you unhappy. We’re talking about the bigger picture here.

Are you happy with your current job? Is the cocaine pure?

Happiness is a transient emotion, nobody is ever 100% happy nor 100% unhappy. You asked if I am happy with my current job, the reason I gave my previous answer was that everything that has made me happy/unhappy today has been connected to my job, ergo my job has on occasions made me happy, and on occasions made me unhappy.

You are asking for very black or white answers to a question that by it’s very virtue can never give a simple black or white answer. The tenacity you display in almost demanding a black or white answer says more about you than any answers thus far received.

So, come and lie down on my couch and tell me how you really feel about your Father…

The tax man thinks i’m unemployed,
Which is nice.

Yes I’m happy…double the money, half the hours and a new v8 every year would be nice, but overall,I’m happy

Yet you yearn for more, right? You see other drivers on double the money for half the hours in a new V8 every year and you want that to be you, right?

Is this cocaine pure?

No it’s totally unrealistic

You didn’t ask a black and white question,

You asked this… “I’m interested to know how many of us are happy with our current jobs. Are you just plodding along until something better comes along, or have you found what you’re looking for and have no intention of letting it go?
So, are you happy with your current job”

So then we all gave our replies with answers fitting for your question.
If you had just said… “Are you happy with your job?”
Then you would have had yes and no replies without people elaborating.

And don’t be silly, no cocaine is 100% pure.

Now you bloody well tell me! :imp: :imp:

My current job is dealing, amusingly, with Contraflow who doesn’t seem to get the realistic
state of opinion expressed here. He’s still demanding a black and white answer
to a question that, by it’s very nature, cannot be a straight yes or no.
Then he’s getting irritated by the comments, and contradicting himself on a few occasions.

As an amateur mind-reader, I guess his life is either black or white without any give in either
direction!

So, to conclude…in my current job, i’m happy!

I don’t understand why so many of you are struggling with this. I’m not asking if you’re constantly experiencing the emotion of happiness whilst at work, like some seem to think I am. I’m asking if your’re happy with your job. You either are or you’re not. It’s yes or no. If it’s “yes, but <insert reason(s) why you’re not happy with your job>…” then you’re not happy with your job, are you? Simple.

people have already told you,but when they say they wouldnt mind a few extra quid, etc....you equate that with being unhappy. so its all a bit pointless really,is`nt it

commonrail:

Pretty much, yes.

Like I said on page 1 Iam happy with my job, but thinking about it I would be more happy being sat at home on for the same money. So using Contraflows logic Iam not really happy then

It sounds to me like you want people to say that they dont like their jobs,.

Saaamon:
It sounds to me like you want people to say that they dont like their jobs,.

Quite the opposite. I wanted to know how many people truly did like their jobs. Some people clearly do, I think you were one of them. Most of the other “yes” replies were “yes, but…” though, so essentially they meant “no”.

Happy with the money but the job bores the ■■■■ out me, im on auto pilot all day. The lights are on but nobody is home

I think alot of people are asking for unrealistic things that they know they wont get such as a big pay rise.

Just ask Carryfast, he’s obviously snorting the good stuff

but tilts are good mmmkay :grimacing:

Not happy here anymore. Started here 2 years ago and it was a good job. I never stick around if Im being treated wrong. So after two years (I even thought it was a job for life up til 6 months ago) and my longest employed position, Im off in a couple of weeks

Well I am happy in my job. Did a couple of years agency stuff, usual 3.00am starts, crappy runs etc etc, then got a weeks placement at recycling company. I liked them, they liked me, upshot was a full-time job offer about a year ago. Still love the job, simple hours, some overtime, no nights out, no delicate cargoes, 2 or three collections/deliveries on a heavy day, more often just the one. Mostly fork-lifted on and off, very occasionally some hand-ball - what’s not to like? I’m the only truck driver (we have a sprinter driver too). Okay, not the worlds best pay, but suits me.

Yes, next question?
