You must be actually in the UK to claim asylum. The UK Embassy (when there is one to apply to) does not count. Ukraine was an exception to the rules.
I have said before that I support the idea of processing possible asylum seekers on Calais beach. Those who would qualify after they undertook the small boat trip would get a safe passage across away from the traffickers. Those who do not qualify there and later enter by small boat would be detained and deported on a fast track. At one time the French offered previous Govs some land to do that. I don’t know of that is currently on the cards but think it should be.

I have no qualms about letting a few bonafide refugees in, whatever nationality they may be, but if you ARE a refugee and you have arrived in a safe country…job done.
So other aspects need to be looked at and prioritised on by a govt (who ought to be) responsible for the welfare of it’s own people…
Again…their responsibility either actual or perceived, to these people ceased when they ‘‘escaped’’ their native country into a safe one.
The shear numbers claiming to be refugees genuine AND false and CHOOSING to come here over anywhere else, are virtually an inundation not just a couple of hundred or so.
We are a comparatively small island, our infrastructure and our govt’s responsibilities and policies to our own people are down the khazi as it is, we do not have the room nor the facilities to share with foreigners, and especially when you bring into the equation not very user friendly foreigners… as proven already, who have dubious attitudes to females and children due to their appaling primitive culture.
