In fairness, I agree with with most of what you post on this forum but I’m not with you on this one. Jury selection here in the UK is selected at random and in my opinion impossible for it to be corrupted by knowing people’s political beliefs before selection.
i was only involved in coroners court letter through the door like you said but still asked questions to decide suitability.
I’ve heard he can smash an Ali though.

Jury selection is done by anyone on the electoral role, there was a TNUK member called Dozy who said he was selected and there was numerous discussions about it.
From what I remember, the courts have a group of selected people that have to attend court for a trial.
When you get the letter, it says the expenses are paid.
From what I gather you could be on standby for two weeks, and it may mean waiting around to attend court as you could be a stand in.
As an example of a two week murder trial, the jury member may attend every day for the two weeks but they keep a few on standby in case one member is ill and can’t attend or it transpires they have a connection to the defendant.
Legal advisors have said that if a defendant had one too many drinks at the pub after the day’s proceedings had ended, they have spilt the beans on their guilt not realising that jury members were in the pub and heard everything, as they said during the war (Uncle Albert , Only fools and horses) loose ships, sink ships.
