Political discussions...

you know why dont you… because its all hospitality good for the gpd but utterly meaningless. you buy a cup of coffee from me for a pound then i buy a cup of coffee from you for a pound we both have the same amount of money we started with but 2 pounds has been added to the gdp. Then something happens like covid and the economy crashes. The only way to properly grow the gdp is produce raw materials or add value to them a bit like farmers do oh wait…

GBN are asking for money so I can read their article.
I am not going to pay them.

I have found some other links that mention sums of £800 and £550 from councils, (Gloucester and Bristol) They do not mention how they arrive at even those figures, let alone the millions in the headlines.
If councils are indeed forking out money for asylum seekers only then questions should be asked. Since there are few follow up articles, no questions in the house from St Nigel of Florida, or others I wonder whether the article is more spin rather than substance?
It also says that transport was provided to take asylum seekers to sporting events. It does not say that the tickets were paid for by councils, nor say whether or not t6he transport was going there anyway.
GBN does often use weasel words and use misleading headlines. In the case given it is not even GBN itself making the claims: it is GBN reporting what Rupert Lowe said.
If it is accurate then I expect some other sources are available. Free ones please!

A bit like farmers and miners add to GDP then?
The miners Thatcher put out of work so they could become barristas and call-centre handlers?

No.
If Fred buys coffee beans and pays rent of £100, and sells his coffee for £150 then £50 has been added to the GDP.
GDP is about added value not about total money movement.

This has been explained before.

is this going to be the latest cop out now rather than blatently twist the narrative and dismiss it as inaccurate when anyone can clearly see it is accurate and just making yourself look more and more silly just claim you cant read it…

the minners that were put out of work by thatcher because labour made it untenable.

yep and the profit is still the same… they still have the same amount of money at the end. if you dont belive me go look at the bank of england formula that i posted last time and you ignored

You are like @robroy saying something “is obvious” or “taking something for granted” is not giving proof nor evidence.

Repeating nonsense does not make it real.
Even if 99% of the population says 2+2=5 it does make it so.

the only one that thinks 2+2 =5 is you. the rest of us know its 4.

Oh well that’s totally reasionable then, money well spent our councils, like maybe the ones in Birmingham for instance, they have loadsamoney to waste…speaking of waste.

Stop being such a plonker mate ffs, the more you ramble on the more stupidly gullible you make yourself look.:joy:

Questions are asked and they are shouted down with crys of its not true noting to see here we are smashing the gangs. bit like on this forum.

It does not say that money was spent. It says transport was provided. Possibly there was a bus already going and empty seats were given to asylum seekers? Cost to the council? Zero. If money was spent it will be in the council accounts. It will be there to be queried.

What has Birmingham spent on asylum seekers then?

I do not think that councils should be spending money on transporting asylum seekers around for free.
If I lived in Bristol I would be asking the council about that. Was it an expense or not?

I am interested in what has been spent. Not much in what Lowe says.

@franglais if you want to talk about maths and lying to the public…
cooper said that the illegals were down 41% for the first 7 weeks of this year compared to the first 7 weeks last year.

lets look at that one shall we??
1/1/25 - 19/2/25 there were 1793 illegals that crossed the channel.
1/1/24 - 19/2/24 there were 1716 illegals that crossed the channel

now explain to me how a bigger number is 41% less

Do France and Germany supply free phones and driving lessons?
Why ask that? The UK Gov does not do that.

Some asylum seekers do indeed get bikes and driving lessons. That does not mean that the UK gov and the UK tax payer are providing that.
It is costing you nothing.

It is taking money from nowhere else in the UK Gov budget.
And to repeat this pint again…Asylum seeker support comes from the UK Overseas Aid budget.
It comes from a lump of money set aside every year for foreign aid. If it was given to UK companies for accommodation and services it would go to foreign companies and countries.
Again it costs you no extra.

EDIT to add and Germany does actully provide training even to failed asylum seekers!https://www.infomigrants.net/en/post/11841/working-in-germany-what-is-the-3+2-regulation#:~:text=The%203%2B2%20regulation%20allows%20asylum%20seekers%20to%20stay,rejected.%20Here's%20a%20look%20at%20how%20it%20works.

so do some of the assylum seekers in germany get free phones and driving lessons???
It does cost us something we all pay taxes whether we are working or retired or even to some extent even if we are on benefits (vat etc).

that is money out of our pockets that is being spent on it. Is it right that a working family cant afford to buy a push bike for their child without making a sacrifice of some sort when someone that has contributed absoloutly nothing to the country gets one given to them.

or is it right that the money spent on all this crap is not spent on makeing british lives better.

Agree with you mate 100%.
Jess Phillips is commited to her job and has done lots of good, but like you I guess she had very little say in this despicable decision to water down thorough inquiries.

I find it inexcusable that the scale of this outrage involving many underage girls enduring r4pe and molestation perpetrated by paedophiles has resulted in limited convictions for something which has been going on for decades. The very thought of what those victims endured must register with ANY DECENT HUMAN BEING but it just goes to prove that concerns of upsetting certain minorities which would immediately activate the race card, the potential for racial unrest and the loss of votes, (this government), seem more of a priority to not just this government but the last one too.

Politicians at their finest.

Not that is not right. A good argument for increasing the minimum wage.

Fred giving money to Ali is not money out of @cooper1203 pocket.
That is plain mad.

i pay 20 pence in tax for every pound i earn over my threshold including bank interest. so do you unless your lucky enough to have an income of over 51k aprox so does every person on this forum. That money is used to fund things/ do i get to benefit in the school system now i am working no as i dont have children but i fund it same as every single person on the forum… same way as we are all paying for these scroungers.

LOL, weve all done it but racial stereotyping from franglais?

@ Mr Knowitall…
So which body or charity provides the free (sometimes private) lucrative health care, dental care etc?..on priority in a lot of cases.
Whilst our own struggle for appointments,.and can not get NHS dental care.

If we were still producing coal how much longer do you think it would last under the current eco madness. Mad Ed Milliband would have them closed before breakfast,
