Polishing the lorry

Oh this is a fun thread. My tuppence worth, I once had a break in a Friday morning and during which time I wiped the dash with a damp rag. That isn’t innuendo either.

i polish mine quite regular. Cant have a dirty truck in a F1 paddock or i wouldn`t keep my job  Just done 6 weeks at winter testing and it was gleaming. will probably drop off a bit now until barcelona tho then back to shiney.

Ours get washed every weekend.

Being agency, i like my truck to reflect myself - unwashed and a bit smelly. :grimacing:

when it was my own it got a wash and brush off once a week as a rule, when it wasn’t mine unless they had a truck wash or paid me then no it didn’t get done.

although I have to keep my company car clean now :open_mouth:

if trucks were meant to be polished , they would be coated in teflon .

I see everyone here is saying “no I wouldn’t pay to wash my gaffers truck” but some pay gladly for bling on their bosses vehicle.

What’s the difference■■?

BLING = SAD…

I agree pal…the roads would be alot better full of plain white units and trailers driven by brain dead drivers without one bit of pride in their job or appearance :unamused: :unamused:

Some sad drivers spend a lot of cash on bling,at home their kids will have no food,no shoes and no backsides in their pants.Thats ok so sad dad can have his silly spot lights on his truck…

Yeah, won’t someone please think of the kids? Seriously dude, do you write for the Daily Mail? I’m predicting a big drama Queen flounce out.

Great Thread!

Just got myself a beer and some popcorn

Sounds a nice, happy, polite, sociable, chap this gripper fella :unamused: i wonder if he got the idea for his user name from gripper the school bully off grange hill :unamused:

Many moons ago I drove for a wholesale grocery company that had a fleet of their own lorries, now most of the drivers had their own allocated vehicle. This place had a roller type wash which we used on a mostly daily basis and got paid a half hours pay every time we used it. One guy and I kid you not was a total clean freak. This guy took his curtains and seat covers home on a Friday for his wife to wash and iron. He tilted his cab everyday and power washed the underside. On weekends he came into the yard in his own time and washed BEHIND the wheels and the whole chasis. I have seen him spend 5-6 hours on a Saturday washing and polishing his unit until it gleamed. He used baby oil on his dashboard to polish it and he refused to wind the windows down in case he scratched the glass :unamused: Personally I always thought he was a bit of a muppet but each to their own I suppose.

That’s the sort of truck I like driving (belonging to someone else), then make sure people see me with my boots on the dashboard, windows down, eating fish and chips at lunchtime.
Even better when they leave a “please polish cab” type note behind.

Now then seth, make your mind up.Am I nice or am I a bully?..

Ivreckon that he’s already made his mind up that you are neither nice nor a bully. He probably thinks that you’re something else entirely!

Pathetic!

Somebody likes a clean working environment, takes time to keep things how they like them and you come along and mess it up out of sheer bloody mindedness?

There are words to describe people with this mentality, they’re all covered by the auto censor on this site.

I worked with a bloke who was quite ■■■■ about washing his lorry, over the top really, but his choice. A night man took it out and thought it would be funny to drive through every muddy puddle he could find, leave footprints all over the cab etc etc etc.

He ended up on his arse with a fat lip and totally deserved it.

Kind of hard not to drive through muddy puddles on tippers though NMM. Never left footprints on the dash either, so why people think I should take my boots off I’ll never know.
I couldn’t care less if my cab “isn’t as polished as the older ones” (as an ex colleague put it) it’s a works vehicle, a tool for the job and not an ornament on the mantlepiece.
I also drive a JCB that’s not even a year old, should I polish the cab on that too?

Don’t even polish my own vehicles :open_mouth: but I do keep dash, glass and hand/degreaser wipes in them all along with some dry cloths and a can of WD40, my driver bag has the same.

Lorries - end of shift, quick rub with a soapy brush while refuelling, rinse off, especially lights/mirrors, maybe brush out the driver footwell, top up the screenwash if I’ve needed to use it and the add blue if its dropped below 3/4. Sometimes wipe over the dash with matt dash wipes if I’ve had my 45 and still waiting for my trailer.

I’m not into bling but I do like a clean, tidy workspace.
