Polishing the lorry

How many people polish their lorry on a regular basis? If so do you pay for it or does the gaffer?

Good question. :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Pay to wash someone elses lorry? Lol,good one. I dont even pay to wash my own car! If any company I work for wants it washed they can supply a wash area. More fool anyone who pays for a truck to be washed (except owner/drivers obviously)

i polish my truck once a fortnight from top to bottom including the chassis
wash it between 1 and 5 times a week
i only have to ask for any cleaning stuff and its mine

Truck gets washed by the lad in the yard or even by the Director.
I polish it once a year for Truckfest!!!

more or less the same line, unless they ask I don’t bother, its not mine and its a working vehicle

I like a clean motor as much as the next guy ,the insides kept as clean as an aggregate truck can but if I was in the yard on a Friday washing the artic ,I would get the if you have time for that you can be on your way for another load,65hrs driving a week +5or so more fueling up and other things (mon-frid_)is enough for me .
weekends are for the cabin at the lake wi the family and a flat o beer. jimmy

No not in a million years, bloody madness

Man with a van comes to the yard once a week and gives the trucks a once-over with a jetwash. Other than that I keep the windows, lights, mirrors etc clean but that’s about as far as it goes.

I would if it was only me driving it but unfortunately it’s a multi user truck but I’ll take it through the wash and give it a clean inside every day and then next time I get it’ll be a tip, actually no most of our drivers leave them spotless to be fair.

any carp in the lake? Best way to live pal, family and lake as I don’t drink beer anymore! :grimacing:

Nope, mines not been washed for 2 weeks since the last time blokes in a van from Leicester came and washed all the trucks in the yard
A dirty truck means a well worked truck

lappland life 186.JPGWe wash the trucks when we have finished the weeks shift as we work 7 Days on,7 Days free.then the next shift guy has a clean truck to start his week with.[We get paid any extra time of course]

I washed the truck every time it needed it or if my load wasn’t ready I’d give it a wash every morning.

I’ve never polished a truck, I haven’t paid for any cleaning equipment apart from what I use inside the cab.

I polish mine once a week, and wash it once a week. The gaffer wants it kept clean, absolutely fine by me. He pays me to wash it and pays me to polish it, and pays for any cleaning materials.

That being said, the other trucks aren’t generally kept as nice as mine. Fair enough, that’s up to them. I haven’t lost out by keeping mine as nice as I can.

Let’s face it, the cleaner you keep it, the easier it is to clean :sunglasses:

If I was maxing my hours I might not be so keen on it though

  1. Can’t answer how many, but I don’t.
  2. If I did why would I be dumb enough to pay to polish somebody else’s motor ffs :unamused: , it’s the same reason I don’t pay for fuel and tyres…It ain’t mine :bulb: :bulb:
Now if I was getting paid overtime rate, and it wasn’t in my own time I would maybe consider it.
I do wash it in co time and I admit to polishing the interior, as that is my living space, but I ain’t interested in raising the CO’s public profile at my own expense for a very good reason,… I ain’t bloody stupid.

Mine has not been washed for about three months, cant even read the signwriting saying who it belongs to. The reason? The environment agency have put a ban on us doing so as the water goes down a normal gully drain. The company will not pay for, or even allow time to travel to a proper truckwash where the water is recycled.
No skin off of my nose though, its just a workhorse.
