Robroy, please understand that I donât want to comment on or criticise other officers or areas (nor will I defend them) as judging from some the responses on here I could be quoted in any complaint, I would say though that we donât have the time or officers now to try and cay ch criminals in the act as we donât have enough to get to every emergency call in time.
Iâll be honest, my while experience here really has been more trouble than itâs worth and had I known I would have has all of this I would never have posted. It seems you have had issues with trolls on this site but thatâs not my fault and although using my personal email would have been easier and allowed better separation, I used my @essex.pnn.police.uk address (which I needed to access to confirm registration and whiich canf ne faked) to show I was genuine.
Iâll give it a couple more days as suggested above to see if I can get a few more sensible responses then be off the site, thank you for your help and leave you to it

With regard to the Plymouth news link I posted. Is there anything about vehicles being used as signs in that area (M25) needing planning permission? Although theyâre vehicles, if used as signs and left theyâre almost temporary structures perhaps? Suppose itâs a fine line because commercial vehicles naturally have logos and advertising down the sides anyway. Objectively viewing itâs not hard to spot the difference between a logoâed vehicle parked up and a trailer thatâs been abandoned for days and weeks being used as signage, just with wheels. Maybe the planning regs see it like that too.
To give a case I do think it strengthens the argument that an abandoned trailer does cut off an extra 20 feet of useable space in front of the trailer. This is effectively reducing the lay-by on short laybys over a period far anticipated when it was designed for short term parking refuge.
The other angle is perhaps a trailer being towed to a lay-by as a destination to be used as a sign is actually falling under trading laws? :-
This link here from Shropshire council gives an example that traders who wish to use lay-bys on the A5 would need permissions from both the highways Agency for use of the land in addition to trading consent from Shropshire council

Rather harsh there EB. I can understand some hostilaty with a bad prior experience, and in my stupid/immature teens my only contact with the police was pretty âunsatisfactoryâ. That said in my recent contacts most have been reasonable if not entirely satisfactory (had curtains slashed at Reading serrvices and the Thames Valley call centre were very underwelming in response - crime number, goodbye).
The traffic cops from Oxfordshire force were really good when I had an off side steer blowout on the A34 last year put a lane closure in and stayed onsite while the tyre fitter and Merc fitter did the necessary to get me moving and out of the way. One of the coppers even bought coffee!

I for one thank you for at least trying to ask some of us what we think about the matter. I guess it all boils down to wether leaving a trailer with an advertising board parked in a lay by for days or weeks at a time is legal or not. If its breaking no laws, then theres not a lot anyone can do about it without changing some legislation etc. But as someone above as suggested, it may be that they need approval from the Highways and the Council in order to do so.
I would welcome seeing them moved on. Finding parking down that way is near impossible and Iâve found myself going over my time because plans A, B, C and D were all full up.
With any luck, the children might disappear and you might get some genuinely constructive answers and ideas out of some people on here but i wouldnât hold your breath.

Very very rarely do i use UK roads but from what ive seen in the recent past not much has changed in 25+ years re truck parking, if only its worse. Reports on this forum alone re laybys being closed off, truck stops closing down and the ridiculous prices charged at MSAâs, any measures to remove advertising trailers from laybys must surely only be a good thing. All very well slating the police over other matters but in this instance it does seem that at least one of them has taken a little time and effort to try to improve a bad situationâŚ

My post was mainly aimed at responding to Gidders mate, perhaps I should have quoted.
The topic is parking as I understand it, and a copperâs desire to attempt to do something about it. I originally responded on this thread to Dozyâs comment, and my disdain for the police has been taken to heart by some on here.
On another response I have highlighted the current plight of the industry and itâs problems (including parking) and I donât believe this copper will achieve anything, so as far as I am concerned itâs all (maybe loosely) connected.
Whilst driving around, I see billboard trailers that have been blown over and think âThat ainât working.â So my gut reaction would be to tip them over, away from the road, free up the â â â â â â â â â â â â and negate the advertising while giving the cowboys some big problems.
On second thoughts, allow billboards like in North America. Put them on government land in non-landscape blotting positions. The cowboys would be out of business and the Billboard Agency could use the generated revenue to build and maintain lorry parks across the country.
