Yes. Get to twelve points and you will probably lose all driving entitlements.
You only have one licence.
You pass more tests to add different categories to that one licence.

This, obviously. 12 points means goodbye Licence no matter what vehicle you acquired them in

As said points go on your licence and you only have one licence that covers all categories, so yes points acquired while driving a car affect your HGV entitlement.

Depending on the offences, when it comes to disqualification due to totting up courts tend to be a bit lenient on people who rely on their licence for their livelihood.
Which is why I used the word ‘probably’
Should not be driving…

Bit obvious really !!! They are points on YOUR LICENCE so will affect ALL the entitlements
Did you think that if you got done DD in your car that you would still be able to drive the truck ■■?

Not allways. I know of 2 “proffesional” drivers that have both been before a magistrate and pleaded hardship towards their children if banned as being a HGV driver was the sole source of income.
Both were given 15 points on their licence.

The problem is most decent employers of HGV drivers won’t look too favourably on guys with 15 points. Depending on your employers insurance terms you could lose your job regardless.
your TM is duty bound to inform the TC’s of any convictions.
This from Croners…
The operator is under a duty to report convictions of its employees (arguably whether or not driving vocationally) to the Office of the Traffic Commissioner within 28 days of the conviction. If an employee does not report that conviction to his or her employer, and details of that conviction are reported to the Traffic Commissioner by the authorities, those circumstances are likely to place the operator in difficulties with the Traffic Commissioner. If a vocational licence holder has any doubt about whether to report a conviction or the issue of a fixed penalty to his or her employer, the answer must be “if in doubt, report it”. Failure to report may well result in the employer being called to a public inquiry, the company losing its operator’s licence and the driver having to look for another job.

There is more up to date information out there. Currently if prosecuted for using a phone while driving, the licence suspension is a minimum of 4 weeks.

Well that just goes to show that the system is , if what you say is true, is a load of bollox !! If the persons really had that much thought about their children they might’ve been a bit more careful. Sorry but I don’t go with the " Please Judge, if I lose my licence I’ll be sent to the depth of depravity and poverty because if I lose my job … etc ETC ETC ETC !!!
Points gained driving anything go on the licence
Why should they be separated into different categories of vehicle when those points are a reflection of the drivers standard of general driving - that’s my opinion on this issue
So I have a car licence, a class 1 licence and a full bike licence.
Let’s say I do something daft on a bike. And have to do a retest. Do I have to do retests on all vehicles or only on the one which I was silly on?
IMO bikes, cars and trucks should be seperate. I reckon HGV drivers in a truck should have far less leeway than car driver or those on bikes. I don’t get upset by car drivers doing silly things anymore. But one thing that does upset me is when a truck driver decides to act like a fool chopping around. I’m far from perfect - but far too many use it a wagon as a weapon and it does annoy me.
By that logic then sammy you could have 9 points on each your car, bike and hgv license and still able to drive around on the public highway, when your clearly a total liability.
If you lost your licence for doing something stupid on your bike, then you would be banned from driving anything including a hgv. The topic of retests is interesting, would like to know the definitive answer there, however it would ultimately be up to the traffic commissioner to give you the nod as to whether you can return to work as a hgv driver after a ban. I’m sure I’ve heard of people getting their license back with the HGV entitlement removed.

Unless you take it to court and go and give the magistrates some sob story about you not being able to work without your license. They often let people keep their licence then. I’d say you’ve got 12 points you’ve had enough chance so licence taken away sorry.
Points definitely don’t make prizes
Extended retest is usually done in a car and covers all categories that were revoked
The TC may impose further retest for LGV/PCV but that does not happen often

Try 6 or more. As soon as my mate got more than 6 points they sacked him.

No you don’t. You have ONE SINGLE DRIVING LICENSE with multiple categories on it.
