Points obtained in a car

Points on a car Licence have always run in conjunction with a LGV (or HGV) Licence even when HGV Licence was a separate brown book type when they where first introduced.
Only difference was points or loss of your car licence automatically affected your HGV Licence BUT any that( depending what offences), where committed whilst driving a HGV did not ,always affect your car licence as some where dealt with by the Traffic Commissioners who where able to suspend your HGV licence.

I’ve always thought professional drivers should be given a little extra leeway, given the huge mileage they do. Why should someone that covers well over 100,000 miles per year be allowed only the same amount of minor mistakes as someone that does 6k. It’s not like you can’t pick up points without deserving them either, you can drag the back wheels of your bus/truck through on red when you entered a junction on early amber in some places pretty easily, other areas do you for 3mph over even though the leeway is “usually” 10% + 2mph etc. I’d have thought the number of fault accidents would matter more than the number of points when it comes to deciding how competent and safe you are, but nobody seems to keep track of that, not least the police who don’t bother to attend if someone carelessly causes an actual accident (unless there are injuries etc), but they will happily fine you £100 for a minor traffic offence because you ‘could’ have caused one?

I’d disagree, if anything HGV drivers should have less leeway. We should be setting the standard.

Speed cameras for instance are not exactly difficult to spot from the elevated position
of a lorry cab, if your getting snapped enough to the point your license is at risk then i’d suggest your lack of anticipation in itself makes you dangerous.

So I have a car licence, a class 1 licence and a full bike licence.

No you don’t. You have ONE SINGLE DRIVING LICENSE with multiple categories on it.

4 hours, and as yet no comments about whether schizophrenic sufferers could have two licences?

I agree with this. Some HGV drivers say stuff like yeah but it’s not fair because I was going downhill full loaded in a 30mph limit, yeah, and you’ve got something called a brake? Something called a retarder and or exhaust brake? What you do is use one or all of them and it slows the vehicle. Causing you not to go over a speed limit. Now, if a professional driver can’t do that then what hope is there.

One place…

I know requires your NI number and current licence which they then run through the DVLA website every time you drive there.

Slightly off topic but has anyone had their licence physically checked by the authorities? I’ve not been pulled this century but prior to that when there actually were police on the roads I’d often get stopped by them, but not once did they ask to look at my licence.

My theory was that as I was driving a lorry they automatically assumed I had the relevant licences.

Which is a criminal offence !!!

They shouldn`t be doing it like that. You provide a share code to them or do it yourself and show them.

was reading recently how keeping within the law and lawbreaking has become something of a grey area. in the old days you murdered your neighbour you went down and quickly with it . these days youve got ptsd or even just a touch of autism youre in the grey area of forgiveness.

Calm down!!!..

If I give them my permission what offence are they commiting?

You don’t need a driving licence to get points or be disqualified, they lay dormant until you apply.

Without it being a criminal offence!!!

Guessing, it’s UK plus any country where UK licence is not recognised, and the other licence is equally invalid here?
