POA does anyone ever use it?

Hi all i was wondering how many of you actually use poa? :grimacing:

yes,all the time now…did not use it when it first come out and was getting tacho infringment of 6hr duty on the tailend of my shift quite often, i hve not had a tacho infringment for the last 2 1/2 years…so POA it is even if the goods in/out/TRANSPORT DEPT tell you or not to put it on POA.

Use it all the time, especially with coach work.
Take the little buggers to Chessington, drop 'em off and wait around for 5 hours.
45 mins break, 4 1/4 POA. Simple.

Just look through the sales pages of Comical Motor, you’ll find most dealers use POA :frowning:

They put a nice fancy advert in with all the details apart from the main one, they put £POA

Nope never, not once. To be fair though I am s/e and I know we had an opt out when it first came in, I’m sure someone will tell me if that is still the case? I never do more than 6 hours without a break anyway so maybe I’m avoiding the infringements that way. I wouldn’t even know what mode on the tacho represents it, in the same way I have no idea what c+e and all this 12 tonne mam malarky means. I have a class one, so don’t need to know all these different classes. End of.

Using POA makes keeping your WTD hours over the fixed period down to an average of 48hrs quite easy. It also makes working less than the maximum 60 hrs per week allowed under the WTD an easy thing to acheive

As a professional you do actually need to know. End of.

nope, never but i put it on break quite a bit ,roughly three hours a day

No, not me. I only use break. I never get an infringement on the 6 hr rule. Turn up, leave on other work, hand paperwork in, do doors/curtains, back to cab, on break. Back onto other work, do up doors/curtains, away. Keeps my average down to about 42 to 46 hrs. I only leave it on other work at lidl or aldi. Then I have a 45 once tipped, or before if i’ll go over 6 hrs duty whilst tipping

Depends on what you mean by self employed, if you are an owner driver then as far as I know the WTD still is not for you, on the other hand if you are a self employed agency driver then you are supposed to comply with the WTD which is what I assume you believe you’re exempted from.

I’m all ears Ron. Please explain exactly why?

I never use it, it’s pointless and I just use break for those periods.

Why not just use break, you get more opportunities to use break than POA as the requirements are less?

Thousands of people in the EU got the ‘opt out’ when the WTD started. I know because I was one of them as when it was introduced I was still an owner driver and therefore did not have to bother with it due to the exemption /opt out for OD’s

Hi coffeeholic,i never got the chance to use poa on the 2 days i was driving mate, just break and other work.no poa time came up as i was handballing items all the time.

Just started using it but beware if using a digi as the display treats poa as break and the read out on screen starts your driving time again so you need to keep an eye on your driving hours via a printout which is correctly recorded

hi bjd cheers mate ill keep an eye out if and when i use poa.like i said i never used it in the first 2 days driving.

have a look at my post Digi Tacho theres a bit more info there on poa and how it works on the display

I never use it cos to qualify as a POA are you not supposed to know in advance how long the period will be??

I never know when the RDC’s gonna tip me (does anyone?) I aint driving, I aint doing other work, I dont know when I will be tipped so all thats left is break and thats what I use
No doubt someone will tell me im wrong tho

your a truck driver your bound to be doing wrong after all dont we all just the nature of the job
