Is it true that once an online petition reaches a certain amount the government has to pay attention to it !!! Surely someone will know how to start off such a petition which may just help our industry get to a better level of facilities and respect, if we can educate the right people then we might get our message across
Parking available in every town/city
More washing facilities
Companies made to give facilities for drivers
TV adverts educating car drivers
And the list goes on!!!
Only the time is now to act
Yes.
10,000 signatures gets you a “response” (pretty worthless usually).
100,000 means it will be considered for debate in Parliament (so far 96 have been debated in Parliament).

A nice big bung to the right people will get you much more influence if you can afford it.
Well the RHA have the governments ear don’t they?. Surely they should be the ones pushing for better facilities for us.

Yes they do.
I am sure they are pushing their agenda (& envelopes) daily towards MP’s; unfortunately their agenda will not match with our needs as drivers.

Was a tongue in cheek comment. I think we all know as drivers they have’nt done anything that benefits us.

I actually wonder if the real solution is not to expect better MSAs but put them into the truck instead by making them more like mini camper vans. Yep length would have to increase but we could have a shower and kazi in there. Every driver bringing their own casette loo of course.
Mind could be a bugger when tilting the cab…
Reason I suggest it is because I would think it easier to put in place as no MSA chain is likely to spend the needed millions without upping the charges, which of course your average haulier just lurvs paying…
Yeah the govt pays just enough attention to say “fanny off”
Why would the Government act against what is after all private corparations ?
There is however Ombadsman and other Inspectors for all industries and of course there is ( Laws ) one for everything , it is possible for one person to change things as long as it has merit and evidence written as in a dairy form photographic etc etc and if something is’nt adequate .
So if you think a motorway service area is’nt up to scratch complain to the group who owns it and keep a log and copys ( paper form as well ) if they don’t reply complain again you have to give them the time in right to comply , if still no joy then right to the inspector/ombadsman once they are involved you’ll be supprised how quick they’ll react .
Its a long arse winded way but its the paper trail you need .
So next time your disallowed to use a toilet or rest room remember there are laws if you think your paying to much for overnight parking challenge them ask for facts and figures but you have to follow procedures .
Its all there at a touch of a button or click of a mouse .
i thought someone on here set a petition up they were just waiting for it to go live. cant remember who it was and the thread has been burried now.
Better facilities ,better facilities, I remember when I had a wooden board over t,engine 4 hours sleep and off again into night by young un,s never had it so good

Could you imagine being put on say a 5 year old truck that had more drivers than Stobarts, that had a fitted bog?
Err thanks but no thanks, some tramper’s motors I see now, I would not let my dog sleep in as it is, throw a fitted khazi into the mix, and the ■■■■ hygiene issues in a truck like that would be unreal.
So thanks but no thanks, and ■■■■■■■■ to MSAs…get facilities sorted out in proper designated …Truckstops, other countries are capable of it.
who pays for the truckstops abroad? is it a goverment funded thing? I only know of three truck stops in this country one is on the a2 (merry chest) that has a layby on the slip road onto the a2 and a cafe. The other one was derby way that i found by chance driving past it. this was a lump of waste land with a portocabin for a cafe and toilet block However i think you had to pay for parking overnight. last one is ashford international truck stop that has to be booked in advance (cant even turn up for a 30 min break)
As i dont nightout and on semi fixed routes im beginging to build up a list ofplaces to have a 45 min break near food if i so wish. However this isnt ideal as its not always possible to park in the same places.
Council car parks need to return and the amount of “park and ride” places that are empty on a nighttime is a joke, drivers being forced to park in a lay-by on main roads is surely a safety risk
If you could actually hear what Johnson had to say on this morning’s Andrew Marr programme, then in among all the interruptions which didn’t fit in with the British Bunglers’ Club’ view of the current situation, then it was just possible to make out that Johnson is looking to the RHA members to provide the funds for additional Lorry Parking sites.
A very good move indeed which should be backed up with the threat of a fourfold increase in Road Fund tax for HGVs if necessary.
I watched him this morning ,I actually believe he means good but no mention of driver hours and meaningless CPC and toy town cards …wanted before you work by some companies but over all I think he means good

As I understand it, in France the local Chamber Of Commerce in any area will buy land for a Center Routier. This is free to use by all and sundry trucks. Often they will build a restaurant which is leased out to someone to make their own business there. The rent they pay keeps the basic free toilet block clean. (In theory anyway) Bit of a pain when trucks park there whose drivers eat in the cab, when others wish to park and use the resto.
There are also privately owned Restos where only customers are allowed to park. Free parking, if you buy a 13-ish quid, 4 course dinner with a wee jug of wine included. They make a living as land is relatively cheap, and they do get a lot of trade.
Autoroutes free or toll have more and bigger service areas and basic picnic areas. 20% discount for drivers in the service restos, on sit-down dinners.
I do very little Germany now, but the dishes are always piled high.
Spain has no shortage of land for parking, and food is a bit cheaper than France, and generally fresh salad/veg with a basic choice of meat or fish cooked to order.

Parking for ?200■■ trucks? And it gets full.
i cant see how overnight facilities can be improved. even if you could get hold of some land near an a road the cost of getting planning permistion and building somthing woild be prohibative unless the goverment steped in As Franglais says in france they are subserdised.

I would say I disagree.
Are roads subsidised because the Gov pays for them? Are car parks sudsidised because councils pay for them?
Free parking for trucks should be a requirement for every council allowing a warehouse etc to be built. Let developers factor those costs into their construction plans.

I agree.
Except they do the opposite.
They offer multi-billion £ companies financial incentives (of our money) to build in their area.
Those companies then put double yellow lines on all roads on the industrial estate.

I know you’re joking, mate; but unfortunately there are still more than a few who’d go back to that in a heartbeat if it meant they took home an extra twenty quid a week.
They, as much as the RHA, are the problem.
