How totally and utterly stupid, infact so stupid it’s laughable
What will they do when one very slow moving lorry causes major tailbacks for mile upon mile because no other lorry can pass it ? … If it ever came into force you should all comply and cause major food and stock shortages at shops to teach these idiots a lesson in reality.

If the entire transport industry could work in unison to pull off such a thing, it wouldn’t be facing such hardships as it currently is.
The trucks on UK do cause a certain amount of frustration for other road users. You just need to look through this thread to see that not everyone sees things the same way. However, nothing will change until the standard of driving of all road users is raised.
I find it deplorable that drivers can learn to drive without going anywhere near a motorway. We then find out that people lack discipline, knowledge and experience when driving on motorways.
Agree with the motorway thing. Can’t believe in this modern age we still don’t have a motorway test.
Good example being the Youtube video which was posted up here last week with the drivers all on the hard shoulder oblivious to the obstruction they were causing

The problem with a motorway test is not everybody is very close to a motorway. for instance If you live in Norfolk you’d have to go to Cambridge before you got onto a proper motorway. And if you live in Cornwall or the North of Scotland you’d have to travel a fair distance to find a Motorway.
But maybe a dual Carraigeway would cover many things such joining an leaving the cariageway and Lane disipline.

Not an excuse. If you want to drive on motorways then you have to get your arse to one for your test. If you can’t be arsed then your licence should be restricted to single carriageway A roads. Simples.
Totally agree with the motorway test suggestions, once someone passes their car test it should be restricted until a motorway test is added.
Also to prevent hold ups we should decommission all railways, rip them up and replace them with Truck only roads. No cars No coaches No caravans, Just trucks over 7.5t.
Sell off all the metalwork(track, gantries, electric wires) to help pay for resurfacing. The base for the road is already in place and its strong enough to carry a 500t+ train.
The large areas of sidings at most major towns and cities could be converted to truckstops / marshalling yards where goods are off loaded to be delivered within the towns / cities on smaller trucks more suited to city roads.
This would take most of the trucks off the motorway network leaving the car drivers to moan about someone else. And give the truck drivers a fast safe route to most of the country and directly into city centres without having to negotiate the over utilised roads at the same time as cyclists, motorbikes, cars etc etc.

Please - can we extend that to out-of-town single carriageway - if you can’t be arsed to learn how to use NSL SC roads then STAY INSIDE THE DAMNED TOWN.
Next week the Welsh and their utter cluelessness on ice.

whenever the police or customs seize a vehicle for no insurance/drug smuggling/whatever instead of sending it to the crusher, they can use it for patrols or whatever. Saves money by not buying 20 brand new Vauxhall Astras for local plod to swan around in. Just slap some stickers on the sides, lights on roof , and away you go. instead of maybe£10000 a vehicle it cost £500 max.
I’ve never seen police use a nova or saxo!
I think the people daft enough to start these petitions all wear tin-foil hats and cover their windows with brown paper. Why else would they think anyone in any position of authority is going to take any notice of them?

+1. No petition will ever top the ‘bring back RobK’ one.

You never seen brown paper with foil backing? That’s the way forward as from the outside they don’t know you have done it.
Now who’s the fool?

I’m not under any illusions that the government take any notice of them. Ive put a couple on there to see what the craic was and i will wait and see what happens.
The highest number of votes on any petition in the Dept of Transport section is only about 5000 so theres a long way to go before its even considered. The whole thing is just paying lip service to voters, however if no-one puts anything on they can then say “well we give you a chance and no-one replied , so we’ll carry on doing it our way.”
As someone says in their signature on here(cant remember who?)…“If you think one person cant make a difference…try sleeping with a mosquito”…or something like that.
Oh yeah and for the Tin Foil to work it has to be the strong Turkey sized foil with the diamond pattern, and it needs to be folded three times with a layer of bog paper in between each fold
