over the past year i have tried very hard to be permanently employed, while working for a agency, after being made redundant. have had 4 face to face interviews, last interviewer actually told me that i only got an interview because his curiousity got the better of him. he said that not many women would apply for a job where you have to sleep in the cab of a lorry.i dont attend interviews just to satisfy employers curiousitys, i apply because i am interested in the job. can anybody help.
just to add, that silly documentry about female lorry drivers MOTHER TRUCKERS more like MOTHER

POP IT WHILE IT’S HOT!
I can’t understand how the Mothertrucker’s program has hindered you if anything. I know most of the girls featured in it personally and Emma the lass from Blackpool actually got a job with a main UK and Irish company after the show. I’m not saying she lucked into it because of her fame but it certainly got more female drivers ‘out there’.

I’ve never had a problem. Maybe you don’t come across as someone who would fit in well in a male dominated workplace.
Next time you have an interview and the interviewer suggests that being female might not make you suited to the job, just get up, yank your pants open and have a â– â– â– â– up against the side of his desk.
Could try Iceland in Enfield or get in there via the agency they use. You’ll probably have more joy with bigger company’s who aren’t as stuck in the middle ages as some of the smaller haulage firms may be.
so its totally down to the fact your female you cant get a F/t job not the fact that there are loads of experienced drivers out there desperate for work!
Enfield? you’re no the burd that was sleeping in her car are you?
maritime transport in tilbury essex are looking for class one drivers as are eddie stobart in aveley essex are looking for class one drivers
Is heathrow too far for you?? I used to do airfreight and goldstar (did ceva buy them??) and saints transport both had women driving artics for them. Don’t know the current vacancy situation at either firm at the mo, but could be worth a try.

goldstar (did ceva buy them??)
No, they have a few motors based at Ceva Hanworth on a contract hire doing the airfreight.
Definitely still a few women working for both Saints & Goldstar, unlikely to get nights out from either though so depends if you fancy the trek round the M25 daily or not.
How do you know these people personally? I used to crash into female truckers just so I could talk to them

Do airfreight for a while, you’ll see the same faces parked up next to you day in day out

You’ve had the pleasure of The Horseshoe then Sounds like United or Menzies 1?
16 hours? They’re getting quicker
We used to do a lot of stuff from them, from various handlers… The ones who do American Airlines were usually the worse
What I really like is the small airports… Like Newcastle for example… Or the one in Switzerland or Austria I’ve been once to, the one with the road crossing the runway
its like with the ports - I hate Dover ferry terminal… Its so humanless and nobody gives a ■■■■… I so much miss my mornings in Lochboisdale…
I was arriving there in the afternoon of the previous day usually, having shower and then walking the hills, sipping beer in the hotel or going to the church (no, not to pray, but there were nice people there and if you came after the prayer, they were inviting you for a tea and telling stories from their missions in Africa).
Then in the morning, about 7:10 the ferry guys were knocking to my cab. I was getting up and 5 minutes later they were bringing my ticket and a mug of coffee to me, which I was giving back to them when driving onto the vessel… Ah, happy days…

I’m from Manchester, but used to night trunk to Heathrow, and even I knew most of the lads down there (no lasses though ), just because, like you said, same faces, day in day out, be civil, have a brew at the butty van etc.
As mentioned before try Iceland they are always looking. I don’t know of anyone else that are taking on permanent drivers around this area at the moment.
