I still don’t accept this paranoid crap that the hauliers are having it off and shafting the drivers. If maritime took my basic up to £10 per hour that would be a pay rise of £165 a week. Nice, but times that by 1000 drivers and then by 48 weeks. £7.92million. Maybe more if they up the holiday pay too. I’ll ask the management to have a look down the back of the sofas :unamused: Wake up people. But I guess that’s why you’re driving lorries not owning them

trouble is a driver will take that job do his max hours per week include nights out in his take home wage and be happy earning 400 per week iirc isnt it the dutch who have their rates of pay set by the government?

and this is the trouble with NMW it is giving unskilled labour a chance to catch up with people who have trained and spent money getting qualifications! why would a young person want to drive a hgv for that sort of money getting up at 3/4/5 am working shifts working weekends getting little or no respect from other road users delivery rdc’s transport managers planners when they can go to asda morrisons etc and stack shelves for almost as much!

The government do set the wage, as you said it’s the national minimum wage. Im not happy doing 13 hrs everyday and 3 nights out just to scrape £500 a week, but I have a wife and two young children to support. I can’t let my pride get the better of me by saying I won’t do it for less than a tenner an hour, and face the possibility of not getting a full week in. I wish the government would set a minimum ppm, like taxis have, then we may get better pay. And while these tanker drivers strike it will push up the price of fuel to pay them more, and ultimately you less

ok but i am sure in holland they set the wage to a sensible level not just NMW :open_mouth:

The national minimum wage is £6.08 this is what cleaners get paid to clean toilets or litter pickers to pick up rubbish. Did you spend 2-3k as an investment in yourself to earn what a cleaner earns?

I wouldnt even apply to jobs at that rate id rather warehouse or forklift. I would not drive a lorry any size lorry for under 10quid and i dont give a hee haw about how many hours i could or couldnt get.

If i were to work days I would be on £6.08 an hour but I get £7.24 for working nights. Welcome to Wales ladies and gentlemen.
