My sentiments exactly, I just cannot believe some ponce would take up these positions, or then again I can but only for their initial 2yrs which most companies seek

The national minimum wage is £6.08 this is what cleaners get paid to clean toilets or litter pickers to pick up rubbish. Did you spend 2-3k as an investment in yourself to earn what a cleaner earns?

I wouldnt even apply to jobs at that rate id rather warehouse or forklift. I would not drive a lorry any size lorry for under 10quid and i dont give a hee haw about how many hours i could or couldnt get.

The wages have been at the lower end for a while now. The nmw has now caught up and a lot of firms haven’t got enough work to give you more than 50hrs a week. It’s getting nearer the point where shelf stacking pays more

Hargreaves UK Services Ltd isn’t really a small operator, and as such I would not expect them to give drivers £7:31
How can they JUSTIFY such wages ■■
Some say there isnt a wage rate for around this area, well to an extent that is true, but you can work out that around Donny / Leeds that the Min agency rate is around £8:50 - £9:50 ph, and anyone offering less, and I mean loads less like £7:31 ph is a bad rate
Before someone says about a pay cut thread I stated in, well that was a totally different situation, I took it from that OP that they would get told when their unpaid day off would be, so they would have a opportunity to actually find a day on agency if they so wished, so that they would not be out of pocket as much as having a day off no pay.
It was about taking a day off or some drivers would loose their job

I wouldn’t be allowed to work for UPS as I have worked for them before. Their rules are that they don’t employ anyone who has previously been employed by them. I worked with Lynx when they bought them out in 2005/6. The money is great. I think the guys driving the brown ice cream vans are on nearly £11p/h, but you are working for every penny of that!!! Maybe the night trunkers (or feeder drivers as UPS like to call them) get it a bit easier though. But now they have bought out TNT, I reckon jobs will be few and far between. They will probably be more likely to be firing than hiring. They paid alot of the Lynx trunkers full pay to sit in their houses at night on standby as they chopped and changed their runs after the takeover. I personally didn’t like working for them. I’m much happier being Mr Bullet now. Money is average but they are not a bad mob to work for.

I think someone is having a laugh 7 odd quid for a class 1 driver i get way more than that for driving a rigid… :unamused:

I too hold out for £10ph.

The secret is I don’t HAVE to work 40-56 hour weeks to get by at the moment. I might do once my girl turns 16, but that’s way off yet.

Not being desperate for the hours means you can pick and choose your jobs. I don’t just get the £10, I get the decent doddle jobs as well - 'cos that’s what I hold out for, & no compromise!

You are worth what you think you are worth. If you have low self-esteem, then you’ll jump at £6.19ph in exchange for the regular hours, so insecure you must be. I won’t rate myself below the toilet cleaner, the no speakie english, and the ex-con with points on his pervert licence that would get him seriously duffed over even on the inside, let alone when he gets out and jumps at a job like this…

Work wise, I’ve done 83 hours so far this month, and have another 54 booked for next week. I only want 100ish per month as a rule, but I reckon mid-may is going to be dead, as is June-August following my experience of January this year. It’s all about keeping up the average, and being flexible around how many hours you do rather than the quality of work & pay (won’t get out of bed for days, less than £10ph, or non-paye work!) :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

One big question I’ve always had - How come inner cities non-london seem to pay so badly when it is the same job as inner city london■■? You can get £12ph midweek nights driving 17 tonners for high street shops in London, so why not elsewhere, when the shops are pretty much the same in any high street?

“Because it’s London” isn’t enough. That’s like saying “They’re Pirates - Because they Arrrgh!”

Might just be me that finds this ironic given your sig !! There they are earning , contributing and maybe getting experience , right ponces they are. I heard a theory the other day, its a documented fact that there is a pay disparity between men and women. Instead of women getting higher pay to meet mens ,what they implied was happening was that mens pay was remaining static allowing the womens pay to catch up, thus effectivley meaning that womens pay was not catching up but that mens pay was reducing to meet it. Not sure if it has any merits this theory but you know what some women are like, they want to do everything to fit around the kids !!
