I just cannot believe some ponce would take up these positions, or then again I can but only for their initial 2yrs which most companies seek

Might just be me that finds this ironic given your sig !! There they are earning , contributing and maybe getting experience , right ponces they are. I heard a theory the other day, its a documented fact that there is a pay disparity between men and women. Instead of women getting higher pay to meet mens ,what they implied was happening was that mens pay was remaining static allowing the womens pay to catch up, thus effectivley meaning that womens pay was not catching up but that mens pay was reducing to meet it. Not sure if it has any merits this theory but you know what some women are like, they want to do everything to fit around the kids !!

Re my Sig …To put you in the right direction, Is it wrong to SEEK work WHEN you are in WORK earning £10 ph

None of you Mods or site admin know me, Dont judge me before you do, I can and Have done more than most men can or would do, I do not need to prove that I am more than capable to fill YOUR boots

Phew !!! Sounds like it too, good on yer mate !!  And i’m certainley not going to argue that you’re not more of a man than the men here, you go kid !!! Good on yer

Ha, ha! So easy to wind up! (Good old Mike-C)

Back on topic: A relatively unknown company in Newhouse, Lanarkshire, up here in Scotland, were looking for drivers a few months ago. Class 1 rate was £7.50.

Can’t think for the life of me who they were! Hang on! They’ve got green and white tractor units with womens’ names written on the front - and their green uniforms make them look like wee green elfs…

Oh, and everybody hates them. However, despite it all, and the fine rate of £7.50 per hour (up from £7.25 two years ago!), they got hundreds of applicants.

Funny that…

I think someone is having a laugh 7 odd quid for a class 1 driver i get way more than that for driving a rigid… :unamused:

yes i get 1200pound per hour for driving mine true

Is that all? I won’t get out of bed for less than £2000 per hour. No nights out and must be a 750 fh16…
:slight_smile: :laughing::lol:

PinkLadyTrucker:
Sadly a bit out of my area, maybe Someone would LOVE this position :unamused:

Sound wage at £7:31 too

Woops forgot to add http://www.trucknetuk.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=83194

Before you start knocking the rate, do you know there pay structure? I don’t! If its £7.31 straight through then its not good, granted! However, if you were to look at whats been posted by the driver on for Maritime there on £385 basic for 55 hours=£7ph. But when you put all the bits and bobs on you can make a resonably good living, look at the entire picture not just the hourly rate! How many time do Stobarts get knocked for paying crap money? There hourly rate is better than Maritime but Stobarts don’t pay the overtime rate that Maritime does. Swings & roundabouts!
And as for it being out of your area, you only live 20 mins away! Or are you saying you think you’re worth more and wouldn’t lower yourself? If I was out of work I’d take it, owt’s better than nowt, especially when there’s a mortgage to pay!

I will see your £7.31 and lower you to this …

Im sure someone nr Bradford even maybe Leeds would so love that job, you should of posted it

Immediate start, well I would think so, Someone starting out may want that

Hey what is the MNW now? surely above £6:08

That is the current NMW going up to £6.19 in october, i am currently unemployed and i would rather drive a transit van for a charity shop than work for them.

My sentiments exactly, I just cannot believe some ponce would take up these positions, or then again I can but only for their initial 2yrs which most companies seek

Maybe someone with lots of kids, take a job like that, then the benefits kick in, working family tax credits etc, which then entitles you to free school dinners, free prescriptions, free dental etc, without feeling like a scrounger going and signing on every fortnight.

For someone like me with no kids, I just couldn’t do it, need an actual decent rate of pay.

For you though PLT, it’d probably work really well, you really need to know the system to know why so many people are working for these wages.

A firm near me pays £6.85 for Class 1 and when they advertised a job last year when I was on my arse, it was gone by time I phoned up an hour after the ad had been posted

rather than expressing our outrage among ourselves, we need some way of conveying to the employer that:

i. This wage rate is a tad insulting
ii. It is in their interest to have sound, loyal professionals driving their vehicles.

I don’t know how to do this apart from applying for the job, going through the proceedure then, at the last minute, asking what the pay is as it was assumed that the rate offered must have been a misprint.

The right rate is £10 per week for a 40 hour week with overtime at time and a half!

The national minimum wage is £6.08 this is what cleaners get paid to clean toilets or litter pickers to pick up rubbish. Did you spend 2-3k as an investment in yourself to earn what a cleaner earns?

I wouldnt even apply to jobs at that rate id rather warehouse or forklift. I would not drive a lorry any size lorry for under 10quid and i dont give a hee haw about how many hours i could or couldnt get.

+1 to what you said, but 10 squid an hour■■? I wish. :unamused:

I know in our area its more 8/9ish quid and i just landed on my feet but there is quite a few companies that are over 10quid just need to be right place right time to get your foot in the door.

Tell you what if i ever get the old redundancy card first port of call is UPS after what i seen they get paid :open_mouth:

I wouldn’t be allowed to work for UPS as I have worked for them before. Their rules are that they don’t employ anyone who has previously been employed by them. I worked with Lynx when they bought them out in 2005/6. The money is great. I think the guys driving the brown ice cream vans are on nearly £11p/h, but you are working for every penny of that!!! Maybe the night trunkers (or feeder drivers as UPS like to call them) get it a bit easier though. But now they have bought out TNT, I reckon jobs will be few and far between. They will probably be more likely to be firing than hiring. They paid alot of the Lynx trunkers full pay to sit in their houses at night on standby as they chopped and changed their runs after the takeover. I personally didn’t like working for them. I’m much happier being Mr Bullet now. Money is average but they are not a bad mob to work for.

Of all the parcel companies I worked for in my career. UPS were the worst. So many rules/regs,time in motion studies. Deadlines/targets etc… You are worked for your wages.(As good as they are!).In fact, the agency I work for,ask me weekly if I want to go back. £9.79per hour. I still say no. Once bitten…

Why, what is the point in ‘winding’ someone up, it’s not big and certainly not clever. Life’s hard enough without this ■■■■.

BTW, Advert in my local Jobcentre, Deben Transport, Class 1 Tramping, 50-55 hours, with nights out paying £380. No ■■■■■■■ way.

Like the Post is Named, Perfect for someone

That is so pathetic, But ok for some driver in nappies or a driver who wants to be away from home and family, or even close to divorce.

But looks like a few of you would take this job, All I say well done you for keeping pay rates at pre historic levels

Why should the state back up these companies to ensure you have a better all over rate, its NOT the Public fault you decided to take a job which the employer is ripping you off

for you who think the STATE should bail the Employee out, The Point is, WHY should the PUBLIC bail the employer out for paying quite cras wages, Its not right and should be stamped out.

Once again I am flabberghasted :astonished: :astonished: :astonished:
How can such low pay be good ? i earned more than that per hour in 1996 working for Tesco, has the hourly pay dropped so much in the UK ?

YES!

I’m beggining to get a better understanding now. The reason a load of companies have gone to the wall in the last twelve months alone is because they wern’t paying enough and where insulting drivers. Who’d of thought?

Youre talking cras

The small Owner ops may have gone to the wall due to more than Driver wages, Fuel costs etc, No fault of the owner op, but they run on such small margins
Also if you work for a Owner Op, then you are aware of this fact and work towards the better goal, maybe a profit share scheme as part if your wages to get the business growing and thus you would have a interest within the company

Bigger business, such as the one I stated, paying £7:31 ph, is a Insult, you look at their website and see a driver in a lovely truck smiling, Oh he has just been told he will get a £0:01 pay rise, so lets smile hey

Mike C, WOULD you take this job, Probably yes, You can keep it

BUT

Why should the state have to bail out Employers so that a driver gets a sort of living wage

And, why does it matter what gender someone is?

Talking of your sig, you give the impresion, to me at least that Class 2 work is ‘lower’ that Class 1. I’ve just started doing some 26t Class 2 work, I really enjoy it, makes a change from ■■■■■■ boxes on ones.

People with runts have more of a choice regards what job they apply for. I cannot live off £7.50 p/h cos the Gov wouldn’t top up my wage cos I ain’t got any runts.
I’ve seen a few lower paid jobs that look stress free and simples, that I’d love to have but the wage is ■■■■, but, if my wage was topped up by the Gov I’d be a happy little man.

Why shouldn’t they top up your wage? They steal enough of our money, ■■■■■■

as i mentioned in another thread in the owner drivers forum, you know the one, it was the one where you and another member started having a hissy fit between you that got nearly half of the thread deleted, prospective employers read these forums

yes, that’s right, the people that you are constantly slagging off!!!

i employ drivers, at one time, the other member that you had the hissy fit worked for me too, but he left for his own reasons, and i will tell you this, it was not for the money!!!

if you were to come to me looking for a job, i would not hesitiate to offer you a position in my company

as a toilet cleaner!!!

because from your postings on here, you are certainly not mature enough to drive a truck

you are coming across as a very bitter individual who wants everything given to you on a plate, well, here’s a news flash for you, you have to go out and earn your keep, and any respect that you think you might deserve, YOU HAVE TO EARN IT!!!

now, i take great pleasure in the fact that i can, and will, let others have their say in an argument, and on all of the various forums that i am on, i have NEVER used the ‘ignore’ or ‘Foe’ feature on them, but you, PLT, are coming very close to being in the honorary position of being the first person on that list
