You lads know your stuff,it is Darlton at Stoney Middleton I found this one but its looking at it from the other side of the hoppers and if you look carefully you can make out everything the same with the hopper building.

good days in the 80s running out of darlton . wimpeys lads started at silly o’clock to tip london drops and out before the rush hour with retardamac . i had a crane trailer with forks delivering bagged retardamac and dry mix concrete , all anglian water depots . when the mines were closing we took loads of bagged concrete to seal the shafts , sad job that watching the pits die . cheers , dave

Speaking to D A Garner the chap who owns this ERF today while he was on a break parked near to the Oldham Hospital,he was telling me he had just delivered to the Rochdale area and was off back to Buxton to reload. He told me he had owned the lorry for about 9 yrs and it had been off the road for about 2 yrs during which time he had reconned the engine (Gardner).I must say it sounded as sweet as a nut when he started her up and drove off.Is there any of you Buxton based lads on here who knows him.Nice bloke to speak too I could have listened to him all day if he had had the time.10

He is indeed a good chap!

He also runs (although not sure if it’s on the road currently) this 6 wheeler:

Hi fryske Yes he did mention to me that he had 3 lorries altogether and they were all working.

i’ve been racking what passes for brain cells , i knew it wasn’t topley , but i would agree it looks like wimpey’s to me as well , if not it would be one of the via gellia quarries , dave

I reckon that is Darlton Quarries at Stoney Middleton as well lads, the fields to the right look like the ones below Eyam village and the limestone edge is about right for Stoney Middleton Dale. The dale is running towards Wardlow with a gritstone moorland around Hucklow/Abney in the background. Well, that’s what I think, probably wrong. :unamused:
If there was one of Mason’s Seddons in the pic that would have sealed it.

Stoney Middleton that brings back some memmories I used to load at Fine Grindings in the late sixties with bags of black stuff I delivered to varios brick yards in the north east also with my Tipper I loaded 21 day setting tar for the Gas Board depots I think it was a Wimpey Quarry in those days Eh the good old days. Regards Larry.

Hiya…THE BLACK HOLE…was’nt that fine grindings…i used to take reject grinding wheels from a place nr the A580
oppersite side to St Hellens…that may have been British carbrundums. it was all bagged work on pallets and the tip was( slit and tip) you cut the bags and enptyed the product out… they was hard working lads at Eyam.
I should think you can remember the cafe in stoney middleton the lorry park was across the road.the food was top notch.

Darlton used to be owned by Toft Brothers and Tomlinson who were local hauliers and manufacturers of NORDE suspension and lorries, think that it is partly closed these days though. :unamused:

We used to take tarmac from Ballidon to a TILCON bagging plant at Hatfield Woodhouse Dave, that was then bagged and sent off to Anglia Water. We also took limestone chippings from Ballidon and Dene to fill pit shafts in, mainly to Maltby and Calverton.

Pete.

When I were a kid living in Froggatt me Grandma used to threaten me with Stoney, “That’s where t’bad boy’s home is” she used to say.
Further down t’road at “Basler” (Baslow) there was a bench in that triangle that said " Sit awhile and wonder why,the world on wheels goes rushing by". It was busy with tippers etc in the 50s and it’s just the same now,or was last year,no Earles Cement or Mullans wagons though. :grimacing:

Dave,is the boozer still open,Three Stags Heads or summat at Wardlow? The bloke who ran it weren’t what you might call a friendly type although t’ale was good. If you wanted lager he would bugger you off.
That’s tough being barred from a cafe, put yer foot down with a firm hand and get inside for a cardiac arrest.
