Hi Lads. There is one of Sellers fodens XUP318R on page 1 and a couple of AKs Dafs on page 5.
Seeing as it was my local town’s carnival yesterday, have a nice pic of a Bedford from 1972 with a smart Tarmac Foden S36 bringing up the rear.

The yard in Ashbourne is owned by Tony Kent, am pretty sure its now
t to do with the Sellers. Not that it really matters though, it`s still another Derbyshire haulage name that unfortunately disappeared many moons ago.

Whatever happened to Sellars & Kent from IIam big Foden men I bought a S21 8wheel tipper off them in 1975 VTU291E what a cracking motor 16T. payload it used to pull like a train 48mph up hill & down dale never missed a beat 150Gardner 12sp. Foden box a gear for every hill. A cousin of mine bought TRB 132 K S 39 8wheeler a good motor also Regards Larry
TRB 132K was the first Foden tanker that I drove at Tilcon after passing my test (March 1976) and at that time was driven by the late Ian Slater from Parwich. I took it to Derby for its annual test, Bob Sellers purchased a lot of eight leggers from Ballidon over the years and they gave him good service.
Pete.

i am not talking about tony kents yard, bob still owns one not far from steve summers garage, while on the subject sellers ran trucks for quite a while after tony went his own way from the yard he still has to this day nr ilam.
by the time ak transport got hold of sam longson they had lost a lot of work to lomas at buxton who now has the old sam longson yard at chapel as well as hillhead and the new one nr tunstead quarry

Sorry, take it your on about the yard where Steve parks some of his trailers.
Longsons shouldn`t have lost as much as they did to Lomas at the time, they basically let him take it!

Re Hansons Tipper bodies an uncle of mine bought 8 of these 8 wheeler tippers & he said the reason for the curve at the back was so they could get right back under the coal hoppers ? hope this is correct Regards Larry

A couple here on Fairfield Common Buxton during the winters of 1964 & 1965
Also one of the quarrys from the Buxton area (not sure which one though) anyone have an answer. Is it Topley Pike?
Could be Topley Pike John, (never been there) but it also looks a little like Wimpey’s Darlton quarry at Stoney Middleton? Certain that Bonkey will know! Good pics though.
Pete.
i’ve been racking what passes for brain cells , i knew it wasn’t topley , but i would agree it looks like wimpey’s to me as well , if not it would be one of the via gellia quarries , dave
Speaking to D A Garner the chap who owns this ERF today while he was on a break parked near to the Oldham Hospital,he was telling me he had just delivered to the Rochdale area and was off back to Buxton to reload. He told me he had owned the lorry for about 9 yrs and it had been off the road for about 2 yrs during which time he had reconned the engine (Gardner).I must say it sounded as sweet as a nut when he started her up and drove off.Is there any of you Buxton based lads on here who knows him.Nice bloke to speak too I could have listened to him all day if he had had the time.
Dont know the Gentleman in question John but the previous owner was Mick Bradshaw from Ashbourne who ran the lorry from Ballidon quarry, ran with Mick many a time. I have seen it parked up for a year or two and wondered if it would be used again.

I reckon that is Darlton Quarries at Stoney Middleton as well lads, the fields to the right look like the ones below Eyam village and the limestone edge is about right for Stoney Middleton Dale. The dale is running towards Wardlow with a gritstone moorland around Hucklow/Abney in the background. Well, that’s what I think, probably wrong.
If there was one of Mason’s Seddons in the pic that would have sealed it.
