Bet Gary will love you for posting that up!
We run out of Shining bank regular. Sometimes out of longcliffe, Ballidon,Dean,Dove Holes,Hindlow,Tunstead most of the quarrys in the Peak District. Ive never been in Ben Bennets though. My mate owns the old petrol station down at Wardlow Mires, he parks his wagon there.
I wonder if this ever loaded from the Buxton area during the 70s.
Saw this today at Shaw nr Oldham, cant say Iv’e seen it before at any of the other vintage vehicle shows though.

Stanfield:
Is their any pics around of Ben Bennett Jnr fleet.Come on Bonkey I would bet on you having one or two.
Found another Stanny lad.
Oh and I didn’t realise you worked for Beisty! Were you on a tipper and have you any recollections of loading tar at Dove or Hope Street?
Hi Bonkey. I worked in the garage for Biestys and during my time there they never did any tar it was mainly stone from Buxton, road salt from Winsford or coal from over yorkshire and then staveley industries took them over and that was that, they closed the manchester operation down.I did pull stone out of Beswick Limes if there was a vehicle broken down over that way we sometimes went out in one of the lorries to do the repair and then bring a load back across with us.

Aaah right. It’s just I once saw an old pic of an ergomatic cabbed tipper belonging to Beisty loading under the tar plant at Topley Pike quarry early 70s. The photo belongs to a lad I know on Facebook but he’s being stubborn about lending it me to scan!
Soon as I get it, I’ll scan and upload it on here.
Goes without saying I only ever remember the company being part of Staveley and working from Dove and Hope Street.
This was one of Biestys 1st egro cabbed Albions from 1967/68 the lad who drove this was called Eric Garforth who eventually bought a 4 wheeler chieftain off them and started up on his own around 1971.
Can’t quite recall all the details on the lorry (was a while since I saw the pic) but remember seeing Beisty on the drivers door.
I was quite shocked at seeing it as I only ever thought they worked from Dove.
One for you here Bonkey, unable to make out the name on the door so dont know who it belonged too.
That’s a Tarmac Routeman Stanny mate! Posted it before on the thread after seeing it in a lorry book.
Cheers anyhow.

OK mate I just got it out off a book called A Leyland Heritage possibly the same book you have ‘sorry about that’
Spotted this Austin breakdown truck today at Doveholes, looks past the restoration stage but does anyone know anything about it or the company it belonged too.
Also took these while they were parked up more or less opposite the turn in for Dove Holes quarry (Cemex)
Found out that the company that owned the Austin recovery truck was set up in 1973 and liquidated in 1993 and then dissolved in November 1996.

Sellars and Kent went there own ways(sort of anyway). It moved to Ashbourne and became AK Transport which in turn bought Sam Longsons. Unfortunately it went belly up 2 1/2 years ago. It
s now running as G&A Transport. running 3 bulk tankers.
