Some great photos there John, thanks for finding the LAD Albion’s especialy. All we need to find now are the Dodge 500 series, I can only remember them having 2 or 3 of them around 1966. It looks like one of their LAD Dodge’s at the far end of the last line up though, and I can’t remember them having many of those either.
This is the only other photo I’ve seen of one of them, pictured in the centre of Didsbury.

Yes that’s me Darren, a good chap to work for was Eric even though he was forced to lay me off in the end. Big Tilly and Dickie Bow have long past on but I did see Jim at Nick Hall’s Funeral in December. Eight years since I drove a truck, still miss it as we had some good times at Ballidon but things change I’m afraid. Got to have something large and painted white and yellow to get what little work there is these days, TARM*C in large letters and the owners name in little writing at the bottom of the cab door. Keep on trucking!!
Pete.

Hiya, is this the one your thinking of
And how about this one

Oh well, I got the Santa bit right (time of year I guess!) but the ladies name wrong.
Wardlow Mires still does good food, my long retired mate pops down one Sunday morning each month to have his breakfast and really enjoys it. Being an ex tipper man cafes were an alien object to me, you didn’t earn much brass sitting in them!
Pete.
Wow, I remember that cafe. In, must have been 1980 ish (when I was a pup) my sister and bro in law (who was recently retired from the former Tempco International Dist Centre in Dronfield) were house hunting over Sheffield / Chesterfield way and were still having to commute every day from Warrington. As I was a big truck fan as a kid (not so much since having driven, maintained and managed them!) we’d regularly stop off at the Santa Rosa and it always struck me as being a bit posh. I do recall there being a couple or three tankers always parked in that layby accross the road, red and white - were they combs valley? a firm I worked next door to for a few years in the 80’s called high row haulage had a similar tanker fleet, maybe they bought some of them, although most of there work was bulk powder for Lever Brothers. Isn’t there a reservoir near that old cafe now? also, as you come out of Chapel towards the Wanted Inn, what’s happened to that big hotel on the left (it had its own lake) and that’s just reminded me, is that small coldstore still on the right at Tideswell round the bad bends? I recall delivering ice cream there about 20 years ago - in about 3 feet of snow! I also did do some work for James Irlam at Chelford and we used to do the Buxton Spring Water job. Have just had another thought on cafes (must be getting near din dins) someone mentioned Wardlow Mires (I think thats the one with the little garage at the front and loads of ramblers and cyclists use - or used to) wasnt there a really tiny pub accross the road with its own campsite - I really need to pay a visit to my sis and check all this out. Am working on the local buses now so I don’t get out much (some good memories on here though)
