Probably Ladygrove Mill with it being in red livery, that mill still stands but their other one on Old Road near the railway is long gone.

Thank you for the info Pete, used to collect micronised maize from the mill next to the station and micronised peas or beans from the one other side of the A6.
No prizes I’m afraid young Dan’ll but you are more than happy to pop in for a cuppa if your passing!

Looks rather like it Dan, overtaking something as well so presumably it was parked! Handy of ERF to provide a wiper to clean the cab roof as well, not many drivers bothered cleaning up there and a dirty roof spoils photos taken from above.

I’m guessing that steelworks don’t use flourspar any longer? I used to take a few loads of it up to Laportes at Glebe Mine for Slinter Mining from their Tearsall quarry but that was almost twenty years ago and I think that was then processed for exporting to China. There must still be plenty of it in the hills around here, they reckoned that Milltown quarry still had at least 20+ years worth when they closed it down in the early 2000’s.

Globe took 4 loads a day to ICI at Runcorn in tankers , their silo was next to the lime silo where we tipped . They opened a quarry at Backdale off the Barlow to Bakewell road but Peak Park had it shut down because it “was a scar on a beautiful landscape “ and sod the men they put out of work .

I ran into Glebe at Stoney for years from Bonsal Moor and Bradwell Moor and never saw any of Walkers running there, it was mainly Slinter’s, Bill Mountain’s and subbies for Rockart.

You’re right about scraping the barrel, it kept the wheels turning though in the winter when the quarries were quiet.
By the way, have you used Peak Surveying Services last year?

hello John lovely old photos , especially the s20 Foden that company may have hauled lime to shotton , thank you Trevor

The S20 ended up at Midlands Storage and was used for coal and brick haulage ie coal to brickworks (mainly peterborough) and return loads of bricks to building sited throughout the Notts/Derby area. I was apprentice at Midlands Storage and fitter for a while after my apprenticeship and 767 RRB was the last truck I worked on before I left in early 1972. Most of the time I was there it was driven by Maurice Bailey. Grand old truck.
