Anybody drive for these?
How do you put up with the stench? There must be a landfill near my work as they are always coming and going. Even the truck passing is enough to make me gag.

Agreed, they always stink…
Normally taking rancid food to dog food factories
i worked for PDM as a mechanic for nearly 10 years !!! you get used to it after a while…the stink…the cockroaches…the maggots falling down the back of your overalls…
Where’s the barf icon…
What do they do with all the waste?

McDonalds…
Used to work for them back in the 80’s, hauling cows stomachs, intestines, all the nasty bits no one wants to eat. Chickens feet, feathers, fur and hair. All of it can be rendered in some way to either produce animal feed, tallow, glue, soap or fertiliser. As for the stink, after a few weeks you get used to it!
Never used to get stopped by the Police either!
They have about 100 ton of Category 3 animal waste out of our plant a day, think most of it goes to Doncaster or Widnes,Hornigold pull PDM trailers full of chicken heads, necks, feet and guts…lovely job in the summer
I work at the big ‘T’ place next to it in Widnes. Man alive it stinks! Do they burn it or summat? Because there’s a constant whiff and there’s a few big chimneys always pouring out cloudy smelly odoury stuff.
I was told it goes for Petfood, but some is burnt for energy, next time I see one of the drivers on the weighbridge I will ask him what plant does what with it
Known in Widnes as the “Granox” the stench pervades the whole town on some days.
I have been told that this is what Auswitz would have smelled like.
Earlier this year a waste paper plant in Widnes was destroyed in a fire that burned for more than a week, the ash falling everywhere combined with the smell from PDM reminded me of the scene from “Schindlers List”

And on that cheerful note…
Takes me back to when I first got interested in lorries. Used to ride shotgun with a mate and his Dad in a Volvo F7 eight legger hauling offal for John Knights (part of PDM) in Silvertown. Going to abbatoirs where the offal had been standing for a few days used to open up the sinuses! The lorries that collected fat and bone didn’t smell much at all. Drivers back then didn’t use tacho’s, just log books. Don’t know if that is the case now.
It all used to get cooked/dried in one of these.
It’s still log books. AFAIK.
The offal and bones are rendered down into bone meal, the fats into tallow.
Cows don’t smell too bad, sheep and birds are a bit wiffy, but piggies are minging.
You do get used to it though.

Just the other night the wind was blowing in such a way that the steam/smoke or whatever it is was blowing across the yard. It looked a bit like a mild smog. Quite gross really.
At least someone hasn’t mentioned the dead donkey yet…oops.
Nothing wrong with a bit of stinkers work. You get used to it. Can don’t smell much really apart from when in sites. Go all over. Silvertown Widness Kettering Somerset Welwynd garden city. We pull out of Hartshill plant.
I reckon the pay must be decent?
Kit is pretty nice as well by the looks of things.
