Harry Monk:
Ah yes, the Yorkshire Ripper investigation. Those who have been around for a few years might remember this as being noted as an appallingly badly handled Police investigation.
Perhaps if there had been a few less coppers chasing solitary motorists driving at 35mph in a 30mph limit at two o’ clockin the morning, few more looking for a murderer with known habits at two o’ clock in the morning, a few less women might have died.
I only used the Ripper enquiry as an example that most folks here would have heard about - The same principle applies to any number of other similar jobs. e.g. One of the murders I worked on here in sunny Northamptonshire in the late 90s. Again, the victim was a prostitute and in this case she had been dumped on a railway line (hopefully already dead, as being run over by a train is not a nice way to go). As a result there was no forensic evidence from the minced up remains of the body and no known crime scene as on the night in question she was a street walker. Once again, the offender came to light only as a result of a minor traffic stop (he had a doctored tax disc in his car) and when the traffic officer made enquiries at his home, the suspects wife was so impressed by the PC’s fairness that she made certain disclosures to him about things her husband had forced her to do, and eventually gave information that led to the husband being arrested. His car was eventually found at a scrapyard 15 miles away, and the victim’s blood was found on the seats, along with her hand prints on the windows. Without that minor traffic stop, none of this would have been found and the case would almost certainly have remained undetected.
Above is a fine example of a simple traffic stop amounting to bigger things.

It’s not that Monk, i am a positive man, not a negative one. I see things in a good light and look to the future. Roymondo’s post is just a good example of good policing.
