Only time a driver cannot wear a seat belt is when he is reversing, and that’s a fact. Multi drop as well if 50 meters as stated in other posts.

I cannot see a problem, belt up and shut up is what i say. Then you won’t have any problems

You allways get the riot act read to you about safety and wot if…seat belt didnt help me when i was t-boned by a young lad doing 70+ down a one way street into me i had my belt on…the car i was driving was less than 2 yrs old it ripped the seat belt out the floor my feet bent the pedals and my head still hit the windscreen in the corner… blood ■■■■■■■ out my head felt like id been hit by a raging bull…went to hospital in the 2 tones…lucky i didnt break or fracture anything, the next few days the bruising was horendous where the belt had cut into my chest and arm , i stiil wear one because the law says so…or i wouldnt.

Law of averages bud. For every one like you there’s a hundred who have escaped serious injury or death by wearing a belt, and probably half a dozen or even less who are no longer here to post out-dated attitudes because they didn’t and got wiped out. Legislation takes the majority view; same with crash helmets for motorcyclists.

I hear that kind of argument time and time again but it is like saying “my granny smoked 40 a day and lived to 90 so smoking can’t be bad for you”. For every one person who has an accident where the belt makes things worse there will be 100 who have one where it makes things better.

Years ago we had some units on contract to Shell Chemicals and they insisted seat belts were fitted and worn.
They came off contract two years later and our engineer told the drivers who were allocated them that if they didn’t want to wear the belts he would remove them, if the belts were left in the driver must wear them.

Has the law now changed and all HGV’s must have belts fitted and worn?

It’s 14 years since I retired and a lot has changed since then.

And what would be wrong with the copper having a quiet word with these drivers ■■ Maybe tell them he is going to be sitting there for the rest of the week and if they aren’t wearing their belt next time, then they get a ticket to the ball.

It’s simple, put it on. That’s the law. Why do so called professional divers always look for ways to get round it? Or give out when they are on the wrong side of it when they know full we’ll that if they obey it, they will be fine.

As for sitting on a roundabout and catching people, fair play to him, he won’t ever catch me without it buy I tell you one thing, he is definitely on to something. If I could park my truck on a roundabout and let my delivery people come to me, it would save me a good few hours a day.
Stop moaning about stupid things, life’s too short. Obey the law and no problem. Simples.

Shame the Police aren’t as vigilant when it comes to spotting diddycoys out night after night thieving our diesel. Still, no profit in that I suppose.

Really? I’ve never felt the need to put a Jew in the oven !

As for seat belts, its no effort to wear it so whats the problem with obeying the law?

Fancy a policeman booking you for committing an offence, whatever next :exclamation:
I’d get the right hump if i was drunk and talking on the phone one day, then got pulled, it’s just not my fault is it

A policeman out looking for proper criminals would be a start. There are enough of those to be getting on with without valuable Police manpower being wasted on targeting offenders whose only potential victims are themselves, and even this being a blindingly minuscule possibility.

There is no profit in nicking drivers for no seatbelt etc either - the police do not get to keep any of the fixed penalties or fines.

the police dont make the law, they merely uphold the law as made by others, its illegal to not wear a seatbelt so therefore a criminal act has taken place and when your booked a crime has been solved which helps the polices figures
