I can’t say as I’ve ever seen a contract stating the driver is responsible but I have offered and paid for damage caused by my own stupidity in the past.
I poured several gallons of water down the oil filler pipe thinking I was topping up the water. I thought , this is taking a lot. It turned out I was pouring it down the wrong filler cap
For anyone driving a 2005 xf DAF, the water and oil cap are four/five inches apart and look exactly the same in the dark.
I felt such a prat after calling out DAF aid at 4am, all in a panic about wrecking the engine.
Look, you work for a company that charge you for damage thats just day to day stuff then sorry but find a new job

still did not answer my question, looking for something more specific about contract and law ,if this is all u would like to say then please concentrate on anything else, thank you.my point is i dont want to ask my employer to change simple contract do i have to pay or not.but if i do huge damage in cost of 2000 punds and case will end up in court whos gonna pay for it,got it? and i dont want to los my job.had an accident in the past as a dustcar driver banksman did not show stop and i reversed into car which hit two others, insurance covered everything.my qustion is if during driving u do a damage ,boss ask u to pay and u say no can u still keep your job by law if your contract does not say you are resposible for it.

That sounds more like a training issue to me… Are you a fitter? A mechanic? No■■?
I’m happy to do water, oil, bulbs, fuses etc. But, only if I’m shown, otherwise it’s someone elses job - don’t give me all that ‘you’re a screwdriver’ bull, I’ll check them, but I’m not topping nowt up / replacing stuff unless shown.
I’ve worked for firms that have different oils for different engines, all in clear unmarked IBC’s with pumps on, and they say if you put the wrong oil in, you’ll bugger the engine up etc.
Then they’ll have screen wash in another IBC right next to it, and ad-blue in the next 1.
Headlights with siezed release bolts (cue 99% of Merc Actros’ stupid release allen key things).
A company has a responsibility to make sure you’re trained to do anything they require, you turn up with a licence, that means you’re trained to drive it - yet they’ll usually make you do a ‘driving assessment’ - it doesn’t mean you can repair it at the side of the road, change a tyre or bulb or wiper blade etc…
If they want you to do more, then they’ll usually show you how, like using a tanker or a sliding skelly etc.
On the busses, we weren’t alound to drive a vehicle until we’d been ‘VF’d’ on it (Vehicle Familiarisation) and knew where to check the oil and water, where the emergency engine cut off and fire extinguisher and first aid kit and disabled ramp was, knew what each and every button did and where it was, knew the height, length and weight of the vehicle and if it handled specially.
It was a LOT of ■■■■■■■■, but it covered their arses and you kinda felt like they gave a ■■■■ rather than “You’re in fleet 13602 on the 2’s today, here’s your running board”
just would like to add when i was working in council other guy fill up full tank of petrol instead of diesel.dustcar died in the middle of the road.cost for bleeding and all the rest 4500 and he did not pay a penny for it

All employees have an employment contract with their employer, although it might not be in writing. If you don’t have a written employment contract, your contract would have automatically been created when you started to work for your employer.
So what is the agreement between you and your employer, normally a written employment contract can be provided on request after you’ve been there 2 months, but it is not a legal requirement to do so. Has you company issued an employee handbook to you? This could be your contract, thats how our place does it. Have you read it? Is there a section on vehicle damage?
AFAIK an employment contract is legally binding on both the employer and the employee. In your case if it says drivers pay for all damage, then that is what you need to do. If it doesn’t, you don’t. Simples
If your still unsure Citizens Advice may be worth a visit.
great.i have contract and it does not say anyhing about vehicle damage.so if i dont pay for it and lose my job i still have chance to fight.the reason why i ask is they are family indian running business and they do whatever they want really there.
