pay at pump

wtf is the point in having numerous pay at the pump pumps only to have to go into the store to get the receipt?? yes tesco I’m looking at you :imp: :imp:

might not apply to you lads in artics but my god it annoys me when filling up using the company credit card

well… just pay in the shop? :unamused:

Or you could just use the Pay at Pump and read the instructions on the display and press the correct button during/ at end of fuelling which says. YES. Receipt required NO. Tescos do have this, maybe it’s just your credit card isn’t liked at Tesco and the staff have to check it over ■■?

I often fill the car at Tesco and pay with my debit card at the pump and get a recite at the pump, so I don’t understand what your problem is

Just answer “Yes” when the machine asks if a receipt will be required and proceed as normal. After you’ve filled up I think you also have to respond in some way to actually print the VAT receipt. Always works for me at any rate.

fully aware of how to use the pumps :unamused:

there is a button to get the receipt but it just goes straight to the “insert card” screen. its happened three times now at different tesco’s.

If i wanted to pay in the store id go to a normal pump, its there to save time!

Could be right about the card but its just a standard barclaycard commercial card.

The receipt button comes up while you are filling up and is still there when you put the nozzle back?

Never use them… tinyurl.com/kwpntav

Maybe out of paper?

.

Depending on the pump, you may need to poke your fingers up it to retrieve the receipt (oo-err). The thing is actually a computer running a version of Windows (often XP running in “kiosk mode”) and just like your home PC, when you tell it to print, it simply sends the data to the printer then carries on as normal without waiting for the printer to do its stuff. The printer is a separate device and may take a while to get going and run the print job.

Occasionally the printer will run out of paper, but that’s pretty much the only reason it will fail to produce a receipt (if you’ve pressed the right buttons).

Applying the same logic, presumably you never use ATMs, or use a debit or credit card over the counter at any retail outlet?

ATMs are slightly different, as the facia/card slot is normally loose and looks different to a ‘normal’ one. Retail outlets (major chains) can, IMO be trusted as they don’t normally take the card from you these days…it’s when they ‘drop it on the floor’ at restaurants etc that you have to watch 'em like a hawk! There used to be a program on tv that showed you all the tricks they use to scam people, especially your cards…can’t think what it was called but someone will know…2 blokes and 1 girl…find it and watch some episodes…you ought be surprised at the lengths some people go to to rip someone off! Anyhow… I don’t actually remember saying that I don’t use ATMs, stores etc etc, just those pay at pump things. There was a thread on here quite a while back about the same thing…have a look for it, I replied then in more detail

Edited…found a clip from the show after I’d remembered it, The Real Hustle youtu.be/Z8d3Wv0MBEM

There’s never a till roll in the “pay at pump receipt dispenser” - that’s what. :imp:

The “insert card” screen is correct for a lot of them. After you’ve filled up and replaced the nozzle you have to put your card in again to order the receipt. The newer style ones don’t do this and prompt you for a receipt when you first stick your card in. Of course none of this will make any difference if there’s no paper in them which is unfortunately a rather common occurence.

I can only tell you that 99 times out of 100 I get a recite without any problems

By coincidence, I filled up at Tesco last night and the recite failed to appear :unamused:

we are presently using fuel genie (morrisons / Tesco ) , I find it annoying when you find a 24hr station but its not manned and you can only use a bank/credit card in the machine. the fuel card is not accepted and you then have to look for another station . fortunately I(try to) never let it get below 1/4 tank ,but a ballache all the same . we also have a esso card (it regularly changes with the price ) but they seem to be regional ? some areas you will find one ok elsewhere it seems to all bp or shell or whatever ?. if the machines would take the genie card my life would be sooooo much simpler at nights .

No receipt means they get you into the shop to buy lots of stuff you didn’t know you needed!

My Natwest bank card doesn’t work in any pay at pump station

Do you have any money in the account?

More seriously, does it work properly if you pay in the kiosk (i.e. you put the card in the Chip & PIN reader, enter your PIN and the transaction goes through without further intervention, or having to swipe it through the magnetic stripe reader)?
