Alf Parry from Connah’s Quay, them boys could get a shift on along the A41 between Wolverhampton and Whitchurch!
Last motor’s they ran we’re Sed Atki’s, Steelboy F10 will remember them,

Hi Pete, was only talking about Alf Parrys to a couple of guys from north Wales at the retro show this afternoon, the Foden was usually driven by Jimmy Grog, other drivers were Davie, who had the B series ERF, squeaker…think he had the Sed Atki, Emma ( aka the black man). As he was the fitter!, and Malcolm, their yard was sold for Asda to build a store and they moved to sandycroft.

Always ran a tidy fleet

Barry Waddy may be able to fill in some blanks…

Thank you M M L & 240 Gardiner, so the white knight etc depicts the model of the cabs involved, we called the twin steer 6x2 tractors, a chinese six.
It must have been nice to have a name for each model, Thanks again. I will now go and check I have the right number for the Samaritons. Harvey

Don’t bother Harvey, it’s permanently engaged. Must be all the TNUK members who read Carryfasts posts?

Pete.

Harvey, prior to the Mk11 receiving Frank Whalley’s names at the beginning of the seventies, the chassis were designated as either Silver Knight, Black Knight or Gold Knight depending on the intended function. Chris knows the associations for each - I’ve forgotten them although they’re in a book somewhere but I can’t remember where I left it…

Thanks Marky, Of all the trucks I have dealt with over the years the “Basic” looking Borderer allways looked like a proper lorry in my view. On Sundays I still keep my hand in mainly in a new MAN or Volvo and sorry to say they have no sole and take so much from the driver, sometimes I just feel I am in the way just being there. Harvey

"Oily may be able to confirm he knows his car transporters " I’d give way to dieseldog66 and transporterman on that one Dean, though not sure if transporterman looks in on this thread. Still keeping an eye open for Progressive transporters
Cheers
Oily

Might have put this on before Oily, cant remember !

Cheers for the pic Dean, the caption not quite right with regard to the location, it’s more like the Standard Triumph pick up area, Progressive yard was in Torrington Ave off Fletchamstead Highway(A45) with only a smallish car pound area.
Looking for something like this, had a similar one for two years.
Oily

Bewick:
The two shots of the Woodside motors, the F86 and the Sed/Atk clearly show how the Irishmen created a “bomb proof” 40 ft 8x8 van, simply by taking a 40ft ISO box and sticking a tandem bogie and a set of landing legs under it ! They gave up sheeting and roping as a bad job in the early 70’s and converted to the ISO box, nothing too big or too heavy as long as they could “stuff it” into a “van” !! Cheers Bewick.

Nicely put Dennis “stuff it into a van” !

0 Leyland Marathon Export Kit.

Nice pics Paul. I may be wrong but as i understand it the export kits were made due to the fact it was
cheaper to import a truck in bits rather than complete ■■ :unamused:

Hi dean, when you load in the steelworks you weigh in get a tare note with your tare unit number and trailer number and destination and what bay you loading from ,small print on bottom of note states ,it is the drivers responsible to ensure the trailer is loaded correctly so the crane driver takes instructions from the driver cheers John

Thought as much John, thanks for clarifying !

The ‘customers’ were supposedly ‘demanding’ a better ‘more powerful class of truck’ while the photos in the same article suggest the exact opposite when they actually placed their orders. :unamused: :smiling_imp:
