I believe they were part of the B.R. Whorton empire to differentiate from his tipper fleet.

Hi Dean and all,
I could be wrong but I think right in saying the Scania was something to do with the Heaver brothers
from Exeter, back then known as Madderns, I think Iâm right by saying it was run by one of the sons.
Iâm sure the Volvo used to be run and owned by a chap called Andy White,
he ran a few motors in Aggregate Industries (Bardon) Warmwell quarry, used to see him regularly.
Iâm sure youâve posted a photo of his more recent wagon on here before, canât think how many
pages ago, it was blue/greyish version 2 possibly 3 with grey or silver stripes on the cab pulling an aggy tipper, obviously not working out of Warmwell anymore as it closed a while back now.
You mentioned about the All Seasons wagons working at a grain mill in Blandford when you were a youngster, would this of been the BOCM mill ? You probably know that they were bought out by Forfarmers and unfortunately Blandford closed about 5 years ago.
A nice lot of photos again Dean, Paul and the others posters,
Hope your all keeping well and away from the âCâ
Happy New Year to you all
Cheers Nigel

We have had a few of Gro Continental motorâs on here.Article from Motor Transport paper. Anyone who rememberâs these paper will know they were like the Times newspaper.
Therefore the colums are so long that sometimes they cover 2 or even 3 pages on the scanner,so you have to go back
and forth between the pages to read the articles. On the first page dont bother reading the last column as its on page 2 and then it finishes on page 3 where you will have to
go back to page two to start reading the next column. You will see what i mean.
Before it was called Grocontinental it was called Grocott. Hereâs a Grocott outfit being hauled by an ERF demonstrator they set on the Middle East run.

Hi Paul loving your old photos I worked for Ritsons Haulage right up till they closed and I recognised a few of your pictures do you have any more please?
Hi Bri, Welcome to Trucknet, If my memory serves me well, Ritsons were fridge lorries carrying meat from the abattoir on
Prescot Road in Liverpool, not far from the Wholesale Fruit & Veg Market. I think there are some pictures of Ritsons lorries
on the Liverpool Hauliers thread. Cheers, Ray Smyth.

H.L.Robinson Transport from 1977.
Hi Dean ,yes indeed i do remember H L Robinson ,and thank you for a very interesting article .
Truth to tell i can not remember those TMs ,as Robinsons were mainly ERFs ,hauling tinplate out of Ebbw Vale fpr such places as Metal Box Aintree ,they back loaded sugar from Tate and Lyle or tinned goods from Heinz at Wigan .
Seem to remember some of their ERFs and Atkinsons ended up with TSP transport at Skewen ,cheers Dean have a great Christmas ,KeithKeith you mentioned TSP Transport. Heres a couple of there motors.
Hi Dean ,i forgot to say thank you for these ,yes they also hauled a lot of nickel out of the former Inco Nickel works at Clydach above Swansea , HL Robinson also did this work and would see them both at Wiggins Hereford ,.
TSP ,if my memory serves me correct is Trotter ,Seymour and Powell ,regards and a Happy New Year to both you and Paul ,Keith3

Hi Dean, The Wilson-Duke Volvo is attached to a Thomas Wilson fridge trailer. I remember Thomas Wilson Transport,
I think they were from Canal Street in Bootle, the same street as Jarvis Robinson Transport. Perhaps the " Duke " part
of the later company name was connected with Dukes of Northern Ireland.
Best wishes for 2022 Dean, Ray Smyth.
Great to see the photo of the A Wood Mercedes 1625. Soon after this photo was taken it would have had a third axle fitted so it could run at 38tons. Unfortunately this killed the 1625 pretty much stone dead as they werenât particularly powerful anyway.
A Wood & Son were based at Detling Aerodrome on the A249 between Maidstone and Sittingbourne Kent.
Would also like to say Happy New Year and many thanks for continuing to share these great photos⌠Hopefully you have a few more left for 2022.

E.F.Philips DAF. Dont remember them running DAF articâs as were big Volvo users.
I always find it funny looking at the size of the tyres on cars back then. Was following a P6 Rover a while back and the tyres

Hi Dean, Independent Express had a depot at Four Ashes. Going north on the A5, turn left past the Hollies(just before the M6).
In the 80âs we would collect the 7.5tonners and take them back to Ford & Slaters, Leicester for serviceing, mot etc.
A good run out for us as 17/18 year old apprentice mechanics. Almost felt like lorry drivers.
Happy New year to all on Trucknet. Colin.

Thatâs right. Hereâs BKR 740Y the same month, just loaded for Spitalfields Market. The extra axles made them all a bit on the long side!
DEANB:
âwindrushâPete i remember you mentioning the Foden rubber suspension a few times in the past. Heres a bit about it from 1980.
In 1980 that would be the âRydewellâ rubber suspension who I believe were based in Northampton? That had the rubber âelephants feetâ mounted at right angles to the chassis, it was ok in service but the rear brake chambers protruded past the rear wheels so were no good for paver work. Foden fitted their own rubbers in line with the chassis (like the earlier NORDE system) so the brake chambers could be relocated and they gave very few problems.
We had a S reg Foden S83 with the air taildoor, it wasnât a success as it often failed to open and the driver had to get out and clean it off after tipping anyway and no more were ordered.
Pete.
Pete / Kempston, was trying to find this yesterday to pop on but only found it today.

Ro, i see you were asking somewhere about what the âSuperâ meant on the Scaniaâs. Heres an explanation from Commercial Motor.
It was swings an roundabouts with those NG 1625s and 1626s Dean. At 38-tonnes you ground your way, largely uphill, from Faversham to London gearing down in fistfuls; but at 12 or so tonnes coming home downhill it was 70+ mph all the way
