LPG Batley also had one of the best Driver Trainers (Tankers) you could wish to meet Mr Alan Walker any of you Tanker lads remember him ? I have a feeling he was a member on here at one time.
Was he thinning on top and wore glasses , I remember when I was around 17 , out with my dad and uncle in the local club sunday dinner and he introduced me to a bloke who worked for LPG a nice chap and I`m sure he said he was the trainer there

Yes, Wynn’s had quite a large tanker division in the 1950’s and 1960’s in particular. Mainly Guy Warriors and Invincibles back then
Thanks Graham i did not realise they did so much tanker work. You always just think of the heavy haulage
side.

I grew up with Alan, we were born in Heckmondwike, Alan was a good man and what he didn’t know about the tanker job wasn’t worth knowing.
I once attended one of his hazard courses, we did 3 days at it, everybody passed and as we were leaving…“oh Brian, do you want/need an ADR card”
“that’ll be very nice Alan, thank you very much”
How much today to get an ADR card??

2They even ran this unusual set up which enabled two different products to be carried at the same time.
W & J Riding also had a similar tanker, built by Carmichael of Worcester it was originally part of the BICC fleet where it was pulled by a tilt cab Leyland Beaver below…
1 When EVC took over the business the tanker was allocated to Riding’s for a nominal fee.
0 The two tanks were built to enable two different coloured products to be carried at the same time with the plastic granules compounded at Helsby and transported to Wrexham.
The hydraulic motor and the Holmes blower needed to tip and discharge the tanks were driven by a Ford four cylinder diesel engine carried under the tanker.
Thanks for the excellent pics Paul. I dont remember those twin tank trailers.

GJ Virgo & Sons F88 Volvo.Bit of an unusual trailer ?
TruckNetUK.Old Time Lorries.Paul Gee’s Collection.Volvo F88 4x2-2,Stake-Bodied,Articulated Lorry.VALKYRIE.Monday,4th September,2017.
Hello DeanB The Volvo F88 articulated lorry of G.J.Virgo & Sons has, what the Americans term and call,a Stake Body, and has unusually a semi-
trailer with just one axle. I might be wrong, but the Volvo and it’s stake-bodied semi-trailer was probably used to transport lightweight products
and loads and needed the stake body to just keep the load together.
Stake bodies are usually made of wood and are not hardwearing - metal stake bodies are hardwearing and better all round

Hi Dean,
What a cracking looking truck, well ballanced and a great headboard sign, bet that would look fantastic in colour.
Thanks for what you two do to put this site to-gether and the work you put in. Harvey
Morning chaps, the trailer behind the Virgo F88 reminds me of the type run by Calor Gas as the bottles needed restraining. They had a depot in Southampton and quite often used sub contractors during the winter months when they got really busy due to the cold weather, Buzzer
