The Foden has just loaded rock salt and is passing the Red Lion in Winsford, owned by Lion Transport from Wellington Shropshire, I cheated and asked on another group but credited the pic to Mark! Cheer’s Pete

Hello DEAN and pete ,you have never featured Lion Transport before ,they were mostly coal hauliers ,but were based at Little Wenlock which is near Buildwas ,they did a lot in and out of the power station their and also years back the same at Stourport .

Yes,Thomas Black were big fuel suppliers based in Sheffield, they also had several vehicles based in Lindsey Oil Refinery (LOR) at Killingholme on heavy oils.I think they finished up as part of British Fuels.
Not my photos.
The Volvo 88 with Willhire trailer has a FL Peterborough plate and Willhire a East Anglian based company IIRC.

These X Army Austin 6 wheelers were very popular in the North East, I remember Trembles of Benton running serveral fitted with cranes, Plus some tipper men had them on the Open Cast Coal sites, Regards Larry.

Cant believe the size of the steering wheel :open_mouth:

I’d be interested to know who previously owned that L reg A series showmans motor with the sleeper, it looks a tidy professional conversion.
Ex Middle East running motor perhaps?

I regularly loaded out of H E Sampson at Colnbrook in the 70s/early 80s. My young son,
(now 52) travelled with me in the school holidays. Sampsons was under the flight path for Heathrow, he was very excited and overawed when in the space of a few minutes Concorde, then a 747 Jumbo flew right over us on takeoff. The speed of Concorde, and the noise was spectacular, then the very noisy Jumbo which hardly seemed to be moving was a talking point with him for weeks after. I remember all of Sampsons company cars had the prefix HES on the number plates. Regards Kev.
