Hi ,DENNIS , COULD IT HAVE BEEN JOHN SUTTCLIFF ? CHeers Barry

London Carriers.

Phillips.jpgLondon Carriers originally started as general haulage company but after winning a large contract with the Dutch company Phillips electronics.
Phillips later took over London Carriers after which time they became part of the Phillips Group.
When Phillips decided to change to the grey and blue livery Phillips logo appeared on the side of their vehicles.
Along with many other depots nationwide they had a large depot at Heywood near Manchester their livery was originally all green as seen here in this picture below…

No Baz, John Sutcliffe was one of the actual Makin Family and he carried on for a bit as a Director after Bibbys took over, I’m not just sure but I believe his mother was a Makin. Ah! just got it Baz John Thorpe !!! see it just came to me while answering your post mate ! Thanks for the help though Baz, did you run into Disley much ? Now another question what did they call the little two motor firm that ran out of Disley ? The bloke that ran them got a job in the Mill after we took over. I’ve got to say we got on very well with both “Johns” once they accepted we were well up to the “Job” and I realise not everyone was over pleased when we turned up at each Mill but it was a case of Bibbys saying " You are taking over all the transport Dennis at Makins, including their own motors" ! Cheers Mr. Bewick.

mr Bewick ,you are spot on sutty as we called him was family ginger hair ,but a strait man . yes we did a lot to Disley i was knocked of my load of pulp i had taken from flint , there was a firm ran out of there had two tone blue tippers from new mills drop sided ,used to take paper out and coal back name was Crabtree ,

What did your Old man say to you Baz ? " You should have been a bit quicker to jump out of the way our Barry" The firm I am talking about Baz ran an F 86 artic and it was painted mainly a cream colour with maroon edges. Cheers Mr. Bewick.
