Hi Dean,
Those BT Bedfords were nicknamed Romellâs Raiders by the crews as they believed they had come from surplus army stock! I think they were in production well in to the 1980âs and a few may have been badged as AWDâs after Bedfordâs demise.

Dean a memory jerker just for you mate, the mill was driven by water from the upper reaches of the river Hamble, chairs Buzzer
Does anyone know the tie up between Waters and Geo Siddall. I assume one of the companies bought the other
one out as they have the same colour scheme and share the same yard ?
windrush:
B.J Waters were big Guy operators, they had both Invincibles and Big J eight leggers plus a four wheeler Big J that a friend drove for a year until he couldnât stand the pace any longer and left to go and drive powder tankers for another local firm!Pete.
Toft Brothers and Tomlinson were a large firm consisting mainly Guy lorries, I started there on a Guy 4 wheeler ,progressing up to the 6 wheeler Guy and finally the Artic with 180 gardner. I remember the Waters 4 wheeler and drag very well.

They were seperate companies at one time Dean, Siddallâs were based at Stanton in Peak years ago and my mate who later drove for Waters has pics of the prewar fleet mainly engaged on council work. Later they moved to Darley Bridge by Waters yard. When I moved to to the area in the seventies Siddallâs were running four wheeler Sed ak 200âs and Commer Commando tippers in a red livery, they had a few powder tankers as well, but Iâm not sure how the tie up with Waters came about. My mate will know though.
One of Siddallâs drivers lived at Wensley village just up from their yard and my mate and a couple of other lads gave him a lift home one day in my mates van. They played a trick on him, when they got to his house two of them held him down in the back of the van while my mate went and told his wife that he was nighting out and wouldnât be home. She came out of the house with his roast dinner and tipped it all into the dustbin, he wasnât too happy about that!
Pete.

I remember them being two separate companies, there yards were next to each other, now all one, I can only presume Waters took over Siddallâs many years ago.

Surprised they were still making them in the 80âs Pete, considering they came out in the 50âs. Thats a fair old production
run chap. Mind you if they are still selling you are going to carry on building them.

Thanks Steve, hopefully Pete will find out for certain.
âFLOURPOWERâ One of Heygates ERFâs.
Bennett Heavy Haulage Volvo.
Tidy DAF of W.A.Humphreys.
Hanbury Davies MAN. Looks like the Winchester bypass. Think they park on Southampton docks ?
Mansel Davies Volvo.
Anyone recognise the Scania, few thousand spent on extraâs so possibly an owner driver ?
Mouland runs some tidy motors. There yard is at St Leonards between Ringwood and Ferndown.
I think the fleet is all Scania now, dont remember seeing anything else recently.
Pete Smith, one from your way. Shirleyâs. Posted an article on page 487 about Shirleyâs.
Boughey MAN. Seen these motors about, anyone know where they are based ?
A.E.Parker Merc from Chichester.
Hi Dean,
Boughey distribution are from Wardle in Cheshire near Nantwich, they have recently opened a new warehouse in Crewe.
They get containers in with items like princes tinned foods, pallet the goods up,then the pallets get distributed to supermarkets and cash and carrys etc.
Used to sub out of there in early 2000s they had moved to volvo from erf and fodens at that time.
Steve
âChris Webb ,did you ever go to the Texaco depot on Poole docks, where this Merc is heading back to. They used to
run Marathonâs and Roadtrains which i remember well. The Mercâs i dont remember which is odd so i wonder if they
were trailing them and never bought many ?â
Hi Dean. No,only PD Storage. The only Texaco depots I went in were Llanelli and Canvey Island.

F & A Carlisle ERF. Imagine there was a grain mill nearby as we have had alot of bulkers on this road.

Another one of those mystery blue tippers seen around Poole & Bournemouth. It looks a bit like a Drinkwater Sabey
motor but would have been sign written.5

Cracking pic of the Bedford with crew cab. Think it was a J type Bedford, still selling them on a R reg which
surprises me as i thought they had stopped making them by then ?2

Hello DEAN ,yes Tony Lloyd has several old lorries in his collection ,and thankyou for those GUY clippings amongst them was Farmore from Craven Arms who used to trade as South Shropshire farmers ,and im sure they had a drawbar Guy J as well ,Trevor.
DEANB:

Didnât they used to run the Southampton motors out of Eling Wharf (like so many others)? Having said that, they sold out to Wincanton many years go, anyway.

Boughey is a subsidiary of NWF Group, formerly known as North Western Farmers, and has been for many years.
